Well, since a comedy wins the western poll, nevertheless I hope you will watch some of the 'losers', Cassie, e.g. The Magnificent Seven, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Unforgiven and/or Once upon a time in West, or other western which aren't in the poll, e.g. El Dorado, The sons of Kathie Elder, Rio Bravo, Red River, High Noon, Hang'em High and so on. 😉

Well, but it's a strange vote and I have to admit that I also complained more than I wanted to. Just now I think of a movie that wasn't mentioned at all in the commentaries - 'Dances with Wolves'. Okay it also isn't among my favorites but nevertheless it's worth to be watched sometime.

I have to be honest I am absolutely enjoying the havoc that has been wrought by this western bracket. I must also say that I take great joy in doing my part. Reading these comments has been incredibly entertaining almost like watching an old episode of Dallas. Hahahaha!

So I think we have the top 4 (famous last words?) Only two are guaranteed to be in the top 4 at this time, Maverick and The Good The Bad and The Ugly... It's a battle for the other two although it seems a shoe in.

My feeling is this is not a vote for the best movie, this is not a vote for an award, this is not a vote for the historically most important film. This should be a vote for whatever you want to watch. For me the only wrong vote is when you vote for the movie you think you're supposed to vote for. Maybe I'm the only one who believes in the worth of movies but I'd watch any of the 16 on the list.

Glad you did a poll like this. So many "Westerns" are comedies or spoofs, especially more modern ones, so that makes it hard to define a "Western". I strongly suggest doing future polls by decade. Westerns in the 70's are nothing like westerns in the 90's.

Happy New Year, Cassie! I hope you get to feeling better soon and it's not the dreaded one. Peace Love! Ps. Maverick (RT-66%) isn't a good "western" or film. It's a screwball comedy. 3:10 To Yuma (RT-97%) with Russell Crow and Christian Bale is a perfect western imo.

People figured out how to vote more than once in the brackets, which probably explains how Maverick beat Tombstone.. I remember Maverick as a fun movie back in the day, but nobody ever talks about Maverick as one of their favorite westerns.

Tombstone should be #1, IMO. It's the best Western movie for Cassie to REACT to. Not necessarily the best Western, per se. It's in my top 5 for sure.

The Searchers is one of the greatest movies of all time. Inspired and still inspires directors like Spielberg and Scorsese today.
