Here is a Yoga demo of Salamba Sarvangasana (Supported Shoulderstand) with health benefits of Shoulderstand from the great book, LIGHT ON YOGA by BKS IYENGAR. In this video I read from it to shed light on many Health benefits of this Yoga Inversion!

 ***Supported Shoulderstand helps to deepen the breath flow, calming the nervous system, and easing many symptoms of dis-ease. Contraindications include neck/spinal cord injury, high blood pressure, glaucoma, and obesity. 

****How long do you hold your Shoulder Stand? Iyengar says Sarvangasana can be practiced between 1-5min and up to 15minutes, twice a day. I held this Supported Shoulder Stand for about 4 minutes, and then continued the variations of full Salamba Sarvangasana cycle for a total of 15 minutes of inverted position.

****The yoga video online series, RESTORE YOUR ENERGY, consists of 3 complete yoga classes. They are 40min, 30min, and 20min videos. Each class guides you through a sequence of asanas beneficial for practicing Sarvangasana. Each class progresses into variations of Shoulderstand, so with the series you will learn the full Sarvangasana Cycle.
