There were actually around 100 protesters from a couple different white nationalist groups that showed up to protest the Holi Drag event. This event was held last year with no trouble at all, so what happened this year is definitely down to far-right talking heads stirring up irrational fears. I have lived in the Columbus area since the mid 90's and the city has been a very LGBTQ friendly place all those years. The Clintonville neighborhood where the event was to take place has always been very liberal to my knowledge. It's got a rep for being full of artsy, hippy types and I am sure the protesters came from out of town or possibly one of the more conservative suburbs. The whole thing just makes me so angry. This event is less sexual than your typical high school powderpuff football game, which I'm sure the jerks with guns have no problem attending. It's fear and hate mongering and it's not welcome in my city!

Yeah far-right assholes or straight up fascists of course constantly project their intentions or actions onto those they oppose and detest, thus you hear constant not-so-subtly-racist claims of masses or hordes of illegal voters being bused to protest or vote at some said thing. Yet this is rarely the case with anyone, never mind "illegals." However, Clarence Thomas's wife Ginny Thomas, amongst many many other powerful right-wing figures, is a member of the group the Council for National Policy (started by the nutbar that wrote the Left Behind book series) and they rented buses to transport people to the Capitol area on January 6th (I'm personally 50/50 on whether there was a hope in hell of a coup plan working at all even though some members of the military appeared to be tacitly on board, but regardless there's no denying some coordinated groups tried and I'd wager CNP members at least caught a whiff of plans). Also, somewhat recently there were those neo-nazi dipshits that got arrested in the back of a UHaul, in Idaho of all places (famously not home to the Aryan Nations and other white supremacists looking to prepare for the Northern Redoubt strategy) by local police. Many of them were from out of state and intentionally travelled there to protest (aka likely harass and assault) those in the local Pride parade.
