Going to change how grapple moves selection are performed. Currently it is done via a dir key + grab button. In the future, pressing the grab key will open up a special "pick a move" menu. While this menu is open, the game is paused and the player can pick and choose a desired move to perform on the opponent.

The motivation for the change are as follows:

  • Allows for a variable number of moves per character (>4)
  • More flexibility in presenting to the player the moves they are able to perform based on the circumstances. Eg. when opponent is futa, when you have an rope/potion item in the inventory, etc.
  • A nice descriptive box so moves are no longer forced into the 4 categories and can have special individual properties.

I think that it may need a favorites category and some way of toggling the moves in/out of that category for quicker access when the character has a lot of moves.

Not that's i mind having all the moves on a single character with cool effects on each, how does that work in team battles? Wouldn't it cut the momentum of the game very often?

Sounds good! I just want to know is that all the moves that we could pick? Or just the 7 moves on the picture?

I really like the idea, but there's going to be a handful of moves I want all the time. Maybe consider having a basic grab that opens this menu, but also let us assign favorites to direction keys + grab button?

While it sounds like a good idea, that does sound a bit hectic. Why not add new hotkeys instead?

Well, more hotkeys would make the command helper more messy.

Yea, but not for first iteration tho. This basic menu GUI is already a huge PIA.

Its player only if that's what you are getting at. I know many people need to read the command prompt to decide on which move to use, and the game kinda penalize that given how the escape meter auto fills. The new system with auto pause when menu is open is alot better in that regards.

It only allows the player the pick from the moves that the character knows.

I really like the idea actually and it can add more flexibility since the game pauses and you can pick the move you want, but I might second what dirtyc said since alot of other people are comfortable with the key commands

I think its a bad idea for a action game. It better to stick with the current arrow + buttons than have a move menu to edit the moves. For moves that need items should have another hotkey for moves+item menu.

Enlit3D, your game is absolutly amaizing, but I feel yself, that I have to share some issues I've expirienced while playing it. First of all, player need just a simple guide. How to get more "special" or what "need more speed" means, etc. Second, I found for myself a "strugl bar" awkward - you need to much time to get how it actually works, and then learn how to get this. My point is, that push button RIGHT at correct moment to get yourself release/counter, is rly hard with bar how it looks like now. What i can suggest, is make not the line/spot, but a little place, which you have to get. special meter was more of a testing thing. I dont like it so it will be removed. Ya having the escape area represented on the bar is a good idea.
