When planning Benny's interactions with these guys, I took three things into consideration. The first is that Benny needs to feel like he's making deals that have limited risk to himself if he makes any deal at all, because he saw what Selma looked like and Benny can infer that something went wrong even if he doesn't know what. The second is that the mice can't be intentionally helpful to the point where everything happens through exposition, or else the chapter would need to be re-framed as a story told by the mice. The third thing comes later, but the point is, I try to know ahead of time what the mice can and can't do so that they work in both this story, and anything we plan to do in the future.
