Hi everyone! For the TV series that I react to exclusively on Patreon at my Insiders tiers, I provide the first episode out to everyone completely free so anyone can experience it with me and see if you're up for joining us for the rest! You must have your own copy of the episodes to watchalong as I do blur the episodes and have the audio muted. I leave a few seconds of it up at the start of each episode (between 15-30 seconds) for syncing purposes. I am not allowed to distribute the entire episodes in my videos as this is illegal. Thank you for watching along with me!

DUN DUN DUN! Here we are folks! After over a YEAR spent with animated Star Wars, it's finally time to move along to the live-action stuff! I'm gonna miss the animations, but I'm so stoked to experience these shows too. Welcome to my watchalong reaction to the very first episode of The Mandalorian. Click the embed at the top or click here for the direct link! (Can also be accessed on my website here.)

As most of you know, I'll be very much BINGING both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett in their entirety before Ahsoka releases on August 23. We don't have much time and a lot of TV to get through. Being a member of Patreon at any of my Insiders tiers for July and August will be well worth it if you're a Star Wars fan. 🥳

Looking forward to your comments on this and the journey! Please remember to not spoil anything about Mando and BBF! 😊 Thanks so much for watching!

Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)

As someone from the UK it was such a shame that we had to wait until March 24, 2020 for Disney Plus to release so alot of people were spoiled with the appearance of Baby Yoda who was all over the internet. Alot of people beyond North America just had to wait so it was difficult and a pain but thankfully not much was spoiled. But thankfully I still really enjoyed this show and so glad it even became a thing giving birth to the Filoni-Verse of stories with stuff like Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka feed off each other similar to the MCU films. Also hear that Dave's Star Wars film will be like an Avengers style event so I guess that's where all of these shows are leading towards. Also love that each episode is a chapter so it just feels like you're reading a Star Wars novel in live action. The show itself is great I love the very Spaghetti Western feel which this shows embraces, Star Wars itself is very Western inspired but this show focuses heavily on this aspect of the galaxy from it's pacing, music, tone, art direction, and fashion. In terms of the timeline Mandalorian is set 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi and 25 years before the rise of the First Order so it's very much sent in a very unexplored time period in canon. Heir to the Empire the novel that introduced Thrawn was set 5 years after Return of the Jedi as well so that's cool. Overall love this series, made me fall more in love with Star Wars after Rise of Skywalker released. Animation as well with Clone Wars Season 7 and Bad Batch few years later so good time for Star Wars fans.

This is the Way. Great Season with a great cast and the right amount of Star Wars and new things. Its clearly the best Star Wars since the prequels, atleast imho. You will have a great time with Season 1. Sorry if you consider that a spoiler. There also some really good Making-of´s on YT if you are interested n how they made the show, especially on the technical side. Its really interesting.

Rune

I just love the western movie feel of this. The lone gunman hunting his bounty. 🤠 Hehe, the resemblance between IG-11 and Bucky swinging Rocket around in Endgame… Yeah, I can see that 😂

Andrew Sitek

Not sure if you caught the blurgs (the creatures they rode) but they're from clone wars and rebels. The twi'leks ride them, usually Cham Syndulla. There's definitely some Filoni easter eggs throughout the show to look at for. Never anything major but just fun things like that.

kaiielle

You know, they did look a little familiar but I didn't recognize the name of them and sometimes things can look a bit different from animation to live action. I'll have to try and pay a bit closer attention to things like that. But I also know I can rely on you all to point them out for me if I miss them! 😅 Thanks Andrew!

kaiielle

I probably wouldn't have made that connection in my mind if I hadn't JUST finished working on that edit (and that particular scene). But it looked too similar that it was the first thing that came to mind.

kaiielle

It's gonna be a good time! The hype is real. I will definitely check out those Making Of's but probably not til after I'm done the whole show, just to be safe. I prefer watching those kind of things after what I'm watching is done anyway.

kaiielle

It has been a good time for Star Wars fans! Thanks for the info about having to wait - I didn't realize that had happened, kind of sucky! Glad you didn't get spoiled much. I'm just excited to have more content to connect into the stuff I've seen so far and very excited for this era of the timeline.

This is a great show. As far as Star Wars TV shows, I think this is my third favorite after Clone Wars and Andor, maybe tied with Tales of the Jedi. Also great to see a non-force sensitive protagonist (like in Andor, but this came out first). The Mandalorian protagonist is certainly a man of few words, which I think is a risk, but it worked great, it just gets a very mysterious vibe to him. Great to have you back after vacations watching Star Wars, hope you had a lot of fun during vacation time.

kaiielle

The mysterious vibe is awesome and I just want to know moreee! I did have a great time on vacation, thank you!

And so it begins! I really love this first episode more and more every time I watch it. The score is so epic in this show too. The blue guy at the beginning is Horatio Sanz from SNL. We’ve seen Blurrg’s before in CW and rebels. Kuiil is voiced by Nick Nolty and we’ve seen his species, Ugnaughts, starting with Cloud City (ESB) when Chewy is trying to gather 3po’s parts after he got shot. Have also seen them in CW and maybe Rebels? IG11 I think is also from ESB. The whole vibe of this show just agrees with me, I absolutely love it. I like to see who directs each episode when the credits roll. It’s become a fun guessing game for me haha. Don’t sleep on the credit artwork either, I think it’s super dope. As Obi Wan once said “You’ve taken your first step into a larger world”

When Mace & I first watched this episode and saw LBY, we squealed and then looked at each other with a surprised Pikachu face. Such a great moment to witness, especially since we watched it the day it was released so we didn't get spoiled on that

kaiielle

That's awesome! I've def seen too many LBY gifs and pictures to have that same experience LOL but that's okay!

kaiielle

It's funny that you say the vibe of the show agrees with you when I compare it to Andor and you didn't like Andor. 😂 Preferences do get very particular! Excited to continue and glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for the info also.

Yeah he blew up and became an internet sensation instantly 😂

It’s not that I didn’t like Andor, just didn’t like it as much as everyone else. It’s better than Obi Wan and BOB. I’m a big fan of Easter eggs and this show has them in spades. There is something different when you bring Filoni to the table. He didn’t have full control over Mandalorian but he was involved in a big way at least. This is why I think Ahsoka will be the best. Filoni has full control over that series and after you’re done with Mando we can talk about why Filoni is the best SW has right now.

kaiielle

I feel like I can already tell why Dave is the best, just from CW and Rebels. Very excited for Ahsoka. ✌️

Joits

I'm still shocked that LBY was kept a secret until the episode aired. In today's world where almost everything gets leaked beforehand, I can't imagine what lengths they took to keep this from getting out and onto social media. I'm also surprised that Disney let this happen because I would have imagined that they would have taken full advantage of this and shown a teaser of the character and then a full on onslaught of marketing via merchandising and product tie-ins. Naturally, once the secret was out... then Disney went all out with the merchandising as expected.

Anonymous

I heard they made sure it was kept a secret by delaying merch creation. Much easier to keep the secret when people you employ are bound by a NDA (not saying it’s impossible but you can narrow down potential suspects for a leak)

Here we go ;) It's been awhile since I've watched the entire episodes (last year, I think) as I've been watching dozens of edited reactions. Watching the full show again I noticed a lot of little things I'd forgotten that gave the show that extra... little x-factor thing. One actor I did recognise was the fellow who played the speeder taxi driver. I've seen him often in various American shows but I remember him best as one half of a gay couple in the Sarah Silverman show and they were the best part of the show, always hilarious :) I know the name Nick Nolte but I doubt I could pick him out of a line up... Funny thing- as I started watching this, the subtitles were on and for a few minutes and I thought you were watching this with the subs, thought nothing of it, then the little blue chap talked to Mando in fluent Japanese and realised I had the language set to Japanese with English subs as I had just watched the first Visions. I'll tell you something tho- that Japanese dub is really well done, better than the English dub on Visions ;) Anyway, on with the show... :)

kaiielle

Thanks for watching with me Mark! That's cool that you've noticed some smaller details that lots of reactors haven't included. And glad you got your subtitles sorted. I'll have to remember that for Visions, as I do want to watch it but I probably won't until Ahsoka is done.

Not too much to talk about with the Pilot episode. But like Andrew mentioned, the Blurgs are from Ryloth and Cham Syndulla rides them. And fun fact Hera’s pistol she uses is called the “Blurrg-1120 holdout blaster”. Queel the Ugnaught in this episode is the same species as the guys that Shoot C-3P0 in Empire Strikes Back on Cloud City, and as Meltch from Rebels. IG-11 is an assassin droid of the same line of Droids as IG-88 from Empire Strikes Back and some other ones are in Clone Wars.
