Hey everybody. So the vote was pretty clear and the majority of you wanted a bonus video. As a result I spent my weekend writing a few drafts. But it always ended up being one of two things:

- It became a list video where the different aspects were disconnected. Nothing against Youtubers who do those but I don't want them on my channel.

- It basically became a second Automation video. And yeah. We just did one of those. I read so much about this topic that it is really tempting to tell many more examples and aspects we did not have enough time to talk about in detail. It still feels kind of redundant to do the same topic twice in a row.

So there will be no automation bonus video. We stand by Quality over Quantity and don't want to compromise on it if we can avoid it.

This will probably bum out a lot of you. So here are at least all the deleted scenes in one Patron exclusive Video. (there is more unused stuff but we did not animate it yet, so we'll try to use it in another video. The same goes for this stuff. Don't wonder if you see it somewhere else in the future!)

If you like this we can do this more often – maybe even show you that video we killed last year.

Thank you for all your input on this – we read every single response and they really helped us a lot! –Philipp

Automation Deleted Scenes

Wonderful and fascinating. Thank you for sharing.

Let us see what it worth, you may be in a bad position to judge properly your work.

Anonymous

Totally understand! Thanks for sharing the deleted scenes.

Anonymous

So what you're saying is…don't share this video?

Anonymous

And YES, this is awesome. Please share ALL your deleted scenes here for us paying special people :)

Anonymous

These scenes were important. You provided thorough concrete examples of how automation is a threat RIGHT NOW and you made the point that once one company automates, all will follow to stay competitive. Important stuff.

Anonymous

YES. Dump deleted scenes on Patreon. I am supportive of this idea.

Anonymous

Your animation is so awesome that it's a shame if you make stuff and nobody gets to see them. Best if you can find deleted segments a home in a future video, but until you do - yeees, post them here!

Anonymous

Yes please ! Share with us your deleted videos and scenes! I love your work

Thomas Boys

I'm cool with the quality vs quantity decision. But popping the bits and pieces on Patreon is a good compromise.

Anonymous

Love this idea, this way content created doesn't just have to be thrown out.

Thomas Boys

Also, the birds gathering for pizza night was adorable. ^_^

Steve Bonds

We love your stuff-- or we wouldn't be here. Your uncompromising dedication for quality over quantity is important. While a "list show" once in a while wouldn't upset me, it's definitely not the usual quality level. I think if that were made clear, it wouldn't create issue for your reputation. However, I also think that things end up on the cutting room floor for a reason. It's better for Kurzgesagt in the long run to err on the side of quality.

Anonymous

Wow.. please do post all your cut scenes here in the future. We are not an audience that will be bummed by less than perfect videos - we LOVE YOU!!

Anonymous

How about making a second channel you can call it Kurzgezagt's cutting room floor. You could post cut or deleted scenes along with commentary afterward by staff on why it was made and where in the process it was cut. You can even talk about where it may show up in the future. With the second channel you maintain the quality and feel of the main channel. Just remember that many backers and others out there are interested in more than the finished product. Creators that give a peek behind the curtain add a level of connection to patrons and other fans.

Anonymous

Quality over quantity all the way! We need good quality forward looking informational videos.

Anonymous

Fair enough... you guys are the expert so if you didn't want something, probably you have good reasons. Pretty happy about having extra content tho!

Anonymous

The pizza delivery scenario was eerily similar to that in Neal Stephenson's book "Snow Crash" from 1992. Loved your video incidentally.

Brendan Mk

I think that's a great choice! Thanks a lot for the bonus footage as well, I think that's a perfect compromise!

Yelahneb Unicornucopiax

Agreeing with the hivemind here - this makes for an excellent patron reward rather than having it out and about.

Anonymous

This approach to sharing was excellent! Thank you 😊

JockeTF

Awesome!

Anonymous

Serious props for standing behind your quality. THIS is why we're patrons.

Anonymous

Thank you. This was a great compromise and an excellent perk for your Patreon patrons!

Anonymous

That idea of having a second channel for these kinds of things sounds awesome!! Cheerio!

Anonymous

Well that's the right decision in my opinion, I didn't like the automation video very much .. there is a positive and negative aspect to each topic and it was heavily focused on the negative side! I am a network engineer currently learning automation to automate some task of my job .. it doesn't mean it will eliminate the need for network engineers but it will just change the way we do our jobs. Looking forward to see more videos about space. Thanks

Anonymous

Great compromise sharing the deleted scenes here. I know it is so hard to create something and have to cut parts that you spent many hours on. But that is editing, and editing is key to powerful videos! Thanks!

Rob

Nice bits! Thanks for sharing some scenes from the cutting room floor. Can't wait to have robot pizza in London!

Lines of Desire

We voted for the extra content and you gave us the extra content and I hope in a way that didn't make you feel like it took away from your channel. Live it thank you for your weekend, that's just above and beyond

Anonymous

Would really like this patreon method, so we the patreons get this extra, since we clearly have a strong interest in as much as you are producing :D

Anonymous

Yes Show us the video you killed last year! I think you made the right choice, I do enjoy seeing the cuts you left out just as a video like this.

Anonymous

I love to follow your thoughts, attempts and doubts and I appreciate your decision not to make a second video when it doesn't feel right for you, keep being guided by your principles!

Anonymous

Perfect ! thank you !!

Anonymous

Great choice! Keep up the good work! :)

Jesse Thompson

I am a big fan of "You know what, here is a bunch of extra content that we didn't finish (no sounds, maybe no narration, maybe even just storyboarded narration or something)" but we felt like we put enough effort into before cutting that we didn't want it to go completely to waste" getting posted on a second channel for your more hardcore fans to geek out over with less expectation of regularity or quality per frame or anything frontline like that. :D

Anonymous

I was so consumed by the video that i forgot, that its only "deleted scenes" and was surprised when it suddenly stoped. xD

Adam Rak

as "delete scenes" go, this video is pretty high quality!

Anonymous

Really enjoyed this! I'd be excited to see more things like this in the future as well. It's so interesting to see the creative choices that go into what you do and don't keep. Thanks!

Anonymous

I really like this "delete scenes" video, and want to see more of these exclusive "deleted scenes" videos (assuming we encounter another video where you guys have a lot of content that was cut, that is.). I really like that your so focused on quality over quantity.

Kay Brinkmann

I'm completely happy with your decision on that matter and am thankful that you still felt comfortable posting the deleted scenes here for us (which were awesome by the way). I also think the list video is a somewhat alien concept for your channel. Maybe an approach to this kind of content could be to use it as a sort of build-up prior to you main videos. That way you could "salvage" the stuff from the cutting room floor and put it into a teaser (à la "Five things you didn't know about automation") you post on you Facebook profile. Maybe even without narration and in the square aspect ratio to clearly separate it from you main content. And the last chart in the teaser could announce the new full video coming soon.

Anonymous

Great material, it would be a waste to hold it back let alone leave it on the cutting floor. "deleted scenes" are a great idea. Enjoying your work immensely.

Anonymous

I love the deleted scenes idea!

Anonymous

Thanks for both quality over quantity and for these deleted scenes.

Matej 'Retro' Jan

Deleted scenes, yes! This is the perfect solution to this. Like those extra movie goodies on a DVD.

Anonymous

Would love to see the other previously killed video!

Anonymous

30k a month gives me hopes in humanity. Love u

Anonymous

Nice examples. Not that I care but I think I see pineapples

Norm

$30K Target Breached! Congratulations Team K (I never spell it correctly). ;-)

Anonymous

I'd love to be able to show this to the attorneys in my firm.

Anonymous

Congratulations on reaching $30K!!! XD

OSW Review

This was cool to see, i love seeing the practical applications of automation that i never would've guessed. It's a bummer to hear the follow up / addendum is scrapped but i respect and admire your dedication to quality!

Anonymous

Very nice to see the deleted clips, I would love to see more of these.

Anonymous

Great clips. I really enjoyed this topic. I think keeping this kind of content off the main channel but releasing it as Patreon exclusives is the right idea.

Anonymous

It must be crazy hard to choose what to cut out... :( Thanks for posting the deleted scenes and (by the way) I respect your decision. Keep the great work on making information accessible (not only public, but also easily understandable) to everyone!

Anonymous

I would love to see more deleted scene videos like this.

Manuel

Oh please, do it more often.

Danny Lo

Absolutely amazing! You guys should've totally included it! Loved this video but am I the only one who got a bittersweet taste of it? I mean at the end of the day it'e 'renovate or die'. But it seems we'll be running out of options quite soon

Ignacio Miranda Saldívar

Yes, I love the extra "deleted" scenes... besides that, I got to say that as a lawyer, I felt a little cold running through my spine... maybe I should be thinking how to beat machines in court.
