Is The Last of Us really being remade for PlayStation 5 and if it is, is it really coming out in 2022? Or has the news void drove journos to desperation? Rich, John and Alex discuss this, the controversial PlayStation Plus games line-up - and of course, the big Starfield/Redfall delay. Also: Hitman 3's ray tracing seems to require an RTX 3070 and DLSS for 1440p - just how heavy is this game?

It would be ridiculous if they released Last of us 2 again. That's something that should wait for ps6 then they can remaster both with a the same kind of visual upgrade halo 1 and 2 got. Imagine the lighting with ray traced global go, RT shadows and reflections. Those games would even benefit from RT 3d audio assuming Sony supports Atmos

one of the elements that made the original The Last of Us so great was the balance between gameplay and story. Joel is in his mid-50s and he's not been kind to his body; slithering around stealthily in the grass doesn't fit. At all. So no, a remake based on what a late teen/early 20s Ellie can do would *not* suit a 50s Joel... or an early teen Ellie just gaining her feet...

The question on emulation of Xbox 360 on Windows PC is an interesting one. I remember Xbox BC team explaining they initially scratched its head (well team members' own heads) in the idea of having Xbox One's 1.75 GHz 8 cores jaguar CPU handling 3.2 GHz Xenon's triple-core, two threads each, of Xbox 360. Still they managed that with some unknown magic. Or I suppose, some hyperV shenanigan. Would that be feasible on Windows using its hyperV module with for example a Ryzen 6 core cpu like a R5 3600 ? Heck, would they be so kind as to release the basic emulator so we could patch "on the fly" our own game on this possible VM ? Anyway. Who is Phil Harrison ?

Mark Smith

Phil Harrison, the man of PlayStation Home and Stadia fame lol.

When it comes to games, I feel like the current PlayStation is more like Sony Pictures and less like the PlayStation brand that defined a few eras of gaming before the eighth generation rolled around.

I did hear that the hyper-threading of the Xbox 360 CPU essentially makes it more like a six-core processor running at 1.6GHz rather than tri-core at 3.2GHz, which would make the virtualisation simpler?

Ah ! I wasn't aware of that. That would make a lot of sense actually. It could also mean that some games might have been running on only three cores on the 360 and that's the reason why they're not BC right now or that they didn't work great at first.

Hearing Alex mention the Intel GPUs launching only in PRC makes me wonder if DF has any contacts there to potentially gain access to the units before broad western release? I know it’s maybe a big ask, but also obtaining grey-market goods from China is certainly not unheard of…anyway, if y’all _do_ manage to traverse that morass, you’d certainly have at least one happy patron! 🤓

Also unrelated but y’all have gotten so comfortable on camera, I love seeing your personalities shine through! Rich is a sardonic treasure and without this podcast we plebeians would never know.
