UPDATE: Thanks for the comments below, I've now tried the latest PC patch on my own i9 10900K system and don't have the issues Alex did... so it looks like we'll be tweaking for a version 3.0 on this content before it goes public!

Hi everyone, Rich here, with a spot of early access - the long awaited Elden Ring vs Steam Deck video. This one was in the bag until the 1.02.03 patch came out which necessitated re-testing, re-scripting and inevitably re-filming. Highly annoying, but the final video is more comprehensive, I guess. Hope you enjoy it!

Can someone else test this for me? I have NO STUTTER..ever in this game. It's for nVidia users. I have a 3080ti FTW3 Ultra so it might be skewed but I can play Elden Ring with NO STUTTER at 4k max settings. I have a 5800x, and 32 gigs (16x2) dual rank/channel 4000mt ddr4 CL14-14-14-34. Basically all I do is before playing I open the nVidia cp and disable shader cache then delete the shader cache folder. Then I enable shader cache again and set it to 10 gigs. Then i launch Elden Ring and... It works perfectly everytime. I even disabled VRR to make sure it wasn't smoothing anything out. My PC is also mostly clean of software. No RGB, just Win Defender, Adguard, Logitech Ghub and EVGA precision running. I also have all overlays disabled and in GeForce experience I have that overlay and recording disabled too. I don't remember if I made a custom profile for Elden Ring but if I did the only thing I would have changed in nvinspector is disabling Ansel. I've played for hours at a time, been all over the world, attacked most bosses... And I swear on my son I have no stutter and no freezing. Oh and my GPU is running +130 core +900 mem. Also Windows is on its own Samsung Pro g4 m.2 SSD, so is the game and my swap is on an HDD.

I would have believed you even before you swore on your son

I'll check this out tomorrow. It would be funny if I have to make a third version of this video.

Seriously... I thought the issue was solved by the last patch. Before playing I killed and cleared the cache then enabled it again. It's run great ever since but I have been killing, clearing and enabling the cache every time before I play. I also double checked and I did disable both Ansel flags in nvinspector. So that should be everything. I didn't even run DDU when I updated the drivers and now I'm afraid to update them lol. Or do pretty much anything. I imaged my Win10 SSD just in case something updates and ruins it.

Appreciate it but this is so unbelievable I needed to go deep. It can't be that simple but it's all I've done aside from making sure absolutely no overlay was running and I would have uninstalled RGB software but I don't like RGB so I'm good there.

My Razer Blade 15 3080 stutters like mad (12900k does not). I'll test this on the laptop right now.

So on my system, there is very very minor stutter - essentially unnoticeable. It's like Alex's test but without the lurching pauses.

So an overall improvement then... Did VRR or Gsync help at all in addition disabling and deleting the cache file? The reboot step isn't necessary. I tried it without a reboot and it was the same as far as I could tell. Today I'm going to try playing and clearing the standby cache with an app every few min in the background. I doubt it will have an effect here but it's helped me in some other games in the past, even with 32 gigs of sys ram. Bills2 process manager has never led me astray either and I haven't tried it on this but I doubt it will have any effect either. I hope this helps some people be able to play a little easier & smoother or even just removed the lurching. Watching poor Alex playing with it lurching like that was painful and while I was watching all I could do is keep saying to my wife... Why isn't mine doing this? Why can't From Software make stable games? Last one I remember is Otogi 2 on OG Xbox and I could be remembering wrong and backwards compatibility is just helping it along lol. She was actually going to give Elden Ring a shot even though she's not into games with the exception of Skyrim VR with all the mods lol. Then she saw the stutter/pauses and decided not to because she didn't want to deal with the challenge on top of additional annoyance caused by the performance....so I also bought it for series x to take advantage of VRR which isn't perfect as you know but it's definitely better...or was. Though now I know I should have grabbed the PS4 version and ran it in enhanced back compat on ps5. I'm very thankful I have these choices...now if the companies making receivers would actually fix their HDMI issues I'd be a happy boy. Ok enough of my lack of sleep ramblings.. I spent most of the night trying to pull the trigger on a Fanatec direct drive setup. It's ridiculous that you need a wheel for ps5 and a different one for Xbox. I have my cart filled up but am hesitating on submitting the order. Thanks for giving my "Gaben challenge accepted fix" fix a try. I was really curious to see whether it did anything for anyone else. Im going to try playing.

I have been able to remove all the 1-2 sec freezes by uninstalling gamepass and Disable Microsoft Device Association Root Enumerator. Many users on resetera have also succeded in this. This specific issue has clearly something to do with usb devices/virtual drives as I can replicate the issue by unconnecting/connecting my xb one controller

Interesting... I have gamepass running and I use an Xbox elite 2, xb1, or series x controller along with the Microsoft wireless headset. Controller's and headset connect via the Microsoft USB dongle. I also have virtual audio cable installed and a few virtual audio devices one of which is outputing 7.2 channel atmos to my receiver via USB C to HDMI converter. Is there a theme with motherboard vendor or CPU? I know there was a Ryzen bios update that everyone except for Asus Rog pushed out. It was causing performance issues but it also had a security update so Asus skipped ahead to beta bios. I don't think any of the other major vendors did the same. So that could be an issue as well.
