Hello, Rich here. Last week was a trial to say the least! We had a beautiful piece of content for the upcoming Crysis 2 and 3 remasters lined up, but it was delayed by a week. Meanwhile, due to staff absences and behind-the-scenes commitments, we had a couple of days where we couldn't post anything at all. Plans to do a Steam Deck update piece kinda fell apart when I realised that there was really nothing to add to Linus' excellent video. And yeah, plenty of challenges outside of DF to contend with.

Still, we have regrouped for the Monday morning #content meeting and we have a more robust offering:

* DF Direct Weekly - which went out on Saturday - has been updated. Rich (ie me) updates you with his tests in running an Xbox Series SSD inside a PlayStation 5, and perhaps ironically we've 'patched' the Abandoned segment to cover the new... patch! Watch out for that later today and thanks to Audi for re-opening that project and sorting it out!

* John did indeed visit Crytek a while back, he did indeed interview staff there about Crysis 2 and 3 and we can now confirm that the content will run tomorrow after the aforementioned delay.

* More Crysis later in the week? Count on it.

* John will be looking at the PS5 upgrades for the new Ghost of Tsushima!

* Tom did not complete Shadow of the Tomb Raider last week, but it'll be happening this week instead - and after that he'll take a look at the new F1 game, assuming we can get code for it sorted out.

* Alex is back! We're assessing  Narake: Bladepoint for coverage but we're also planning to do that DLSS ultra performance analysis based on its possible deployment in Switch 2/Super Switch/Switch Model S.

Over on Eurogamer, Will is going to be looking at the Eve Spectrum HDMI 2.1 monitor and the Ryzen 7 5700G. In Patreon world, we should be able to provide early access on some of the above stuff to premium and retro supporters and having secured a new dock, Classic FPS Remastered shall return - and why not continue the Crysis theme with some 'interesting' stats from the PS360 renditions of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. Also, expect a brand new Retro Q+A!

If you have any ideas for behind the scenes content, let us know! But for now, have a great week - and don't forget to join us on Discord! We have an awesome community there and we do share a fair bit more behind-the-scenes info - like the whole story behind the bricking of my Series S...

"...the content will run tomorrow after the aforementioned delay." Only John tries to slip in the word 'aforementioned' into casual conversation.

This isn't a complaint, but does Richard ever do live gaming streams? I'd like to see that. I realize from the patreon feed how busy you are though. Imagine the views MGS4 live stream with Richard and Audi.

I don't do live gaming streams because I'm not especially a fan of the medium? I do like to think about things rather than instantly react. The other thing is that upload bandwidth is a good thing to have and my fibre connection doesn't have it and I wouldn't trust my Starlink connection enough to rely on it for streaming. As for MGS4 - haha! I remember this was one of the first games I ran our very first fps detection tool on and when the average came back as 21.4fps, I worried about posting that number since the Sony Defence Force were on maximum alert at the time. Still, to see how bizarrely this game runs check out some of the later clips here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7gmgg5UzvY&ab_channel=DigitalFoundry

Great lineup for this week guys. Particularly looking forward to the Retro Q&A session with John & Audi. Also welcome back Alex!

Are we adding the Intel surprise to the mix this week? Did DF know about this? Now that the curtain has been raised, would love to know more about what's coming on that front.

I know John has talked repeatedly about his concern for cross-generation releases holding back current generation, but there's a cross-generation possibility I haven't seen addressed in conversation or in games so far: data streaming changes. Resolution and framerate bumps are certainly welcome and I know the DF team is pretty sensitive to those, but for me the infuriating game element is when I'm literally slowed to a crawl so that the next area has time to load. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was an obnoxious example of this with its horrendous crevices and mud puddles you have to repeatedly squeeze and slowly wade through, but there are many other games that do the same thing. So my question is; do you believe this is something that can and will be handled differently as cross-generation games continue to release? Meaning, games shipping with hidden loading screen mechanics in the PS4/XB1 release but those elements being taken out in the Series/PS5 version of the game. I wouldn't expect backwards compatible titles to have support for this type of thing, but it seems like a thing full current-generation games could support.
