Update: Tom broke out all of the FPS data for this one, which you can see here: https://www.digitalfoundry.net/2021-08-17-shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-ps5-vs-xsx-fps-test-patreon

We'll be running this one later in the week, but for our supporters, here's early access to our Shadow of the Tomb Raider content. Interesting to see that PS5 moves from 1872p native to 2160p checkerboard - one of the very few examples we've seen of a PS4 back-compat title changing resolution on PS5 (it's still 1872p on Pro by the way). Also curious is that while  the Xbox version is flagged as a Series title, it's almost certainly still running on the XDK, not the next-gen GDK - as indicated by performance that's basically identical to the FPS Boost version. A note on something Tom doesn't mention: the FPS Boost version had a progression bug, which is fixed with this patch.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S Update - Can Next-Gen Handle 4K 60FPS?

A surprise new update gets PS5 and Xbox Series X running at 60 frames per second in their high resolution modes - up from 30fps on last-gen. PS5 has the upper-hand in performance here though thanks to a move to 4K checkerboard rendering - while Series X pushes a higher quality image. Tom investigates the pros and cons of each.
