Staying in the flow of drawing wrinkles and folds! Here’s a sketchbook page featuring some beautiful ladies with lots of texture and volume in their faces. This was such a soothing sketch session where I just enjoyed the sound of the pencil on the paper and the tactile feedback as I was setting the lines down. These sketches show how much inspiration I’ve been channeling from Eliza Ivanova lately - I love how she captures form! What has been one of your main inspirations lately?

Love your old people studies! I'm inspired to draw my parents now :D Thanks for sharing :)

Love seeing this variety! Wrinkle patterns are so much fun to draw. It's like you get to incorporate a physical representation of time or history. Lovely!

So much interest in wrinkles and folds! I follow Eliza and can see her influence in your drawings, but feel they are still very much your drawings. Recently I learned about Benjamin Björklund and I was really inspired by his colour choices, the way he subtly layers watercolor to build up an image, and by the way he isolates his subjects on the paper. Thank you for the post, Loish!

i loooove benjamin bjorklund and his portraits of his dog! so haunting and beautiful. thanks for your kind words :)

sorry to hear that haha, the app can be wonky for sure.

These are absolutely gorgeous! I've gotten back to traditional sketching thanks to you, your approach has been so inspiring, especially the way you handle shapes and contour hatching. I'm inspired by so many but lately I've also been quite drawn to the works of Felix Delep(his animals are gorgeous), Jordi Lafebre(Everything he draws is heartwarming) and Matthieu Bonhomme(Master of shapes and line work) and Vincent Mallie(Incredible designs). They're huge role models for me when it comes to mastering story telling, design and appeal all at once. Can't wait to see what you'll be sketching next - keep it up!

These are wonderful. I so very much love to draw elderly faces. The lines are all marks of everything that person has experienced up until that point.

You, Eliza Ivanova, and Andrew hem have been my recent inspirations! All of the artwork from you guys is so powerful and impactful.

Jean Claude de La Ronde

You've been my main inspirations lately to be honnest. Love the flow of your lines and the Gestures.

Loish

thanks so much! i am definitely not on their level haha, so much poetry and story to their work. they are incredibly inspiring!

Loish

their work is amazing! so flowy but edgy and cartoony at the same time, i just love that balance. especially felix delep's work appeals to me as well.

Great character in these older faces. Sensitivity and skill in drawing them. I hope to see some faces like this on your full-dress creations someday.

Oh my, I hadn't come across Eliza's work before so I'm thinking she might be the source of inspiration for a few days now! How utterly fantastic!!

Okay! I'm finally finding the time to write from my PC (i didn't want to take the chance of the app dying on me again ;D) First, thank you so much for linking to Eliza's instagram profile. I didn't know that artist yet and her art is so inspiring! just wonderful! Second, I love that you share so many of your sketch sessions with us and talk about your thought processes or the things you're struggling with. It just wonderful to read that everybody has things they want to improve on or days where things are going more "meh" than "yay" ;D you're an absolute inspiration, and i'm so happy that patreon gives you the possibility to work on more personal projects and spend more time on your own art. Third, like I just said, you're definitely inspiring me to create more and explore more and sketch more. Then there's CosmicSpectrum on instagram and youtube https://www.instagram.com/cosmicspectrum - i just love watching her inking and colouring process. And I often let one of her videos run in the background when I'm drawing myself. As well as Heikala (I don't think i have to link to her stuff ;D) - I love her colours aaah, so good! I recently tried out gouache for the first time, and I was surprised how much I liked it. I had only worked with acrylics or watercolours ... also with acryla gouache - which disappointed me because I thought I had gotten actual gouache, but nope, it was just acrylics disguised as gouache ;D But now I finally got my hands on actual gouache (just a basic set with 6 colours, including black and white) and it was so much fun to have to mix all the colours again because they weren't all readily available (like they are when you have a huge set of colours or work digitally). It was super relaxing and I hope I can create more art traditionally soon just for the fun of it. <3 Thank you again for letting us take part in your art journey!
