Finally got around to finishing the WIP I posted last month! It’s heavily inspired by the art of Leyendecker. I tried not to divert too much from the rough version when finalizing, to keep that painterly sculpted look that I was going for. So in essence it hasn’t changed much from the previous version even though it took a lot of time :’) Ah well! Hope you like it!

It looks great! The color palette makes me think of the works you love to paint in autumn :) Also I am obsessed with the knees, the way you got to sculpt the volume is awesome. This painterly style suits you well by the way!

I was gonna mention the rendering on the shoes and the flowers but I can't look away from those shapes on her hair. They're too good!! Please give us a tutorial on shape design.

Loish

thanks so much! i could make a tutorial on that although I've never really given shape language much thought so I'd have to do some research first. what would you like to know about shape language when it comes to my art?

Loish

thank you! I was definitely chanelling some autumn vibes here.

So essentially I just like to know every artist's mentality when it comes to shape design. Like in your art specifically, your initial sketches are very flowy and then there are some chunkier shapes that show up after rendering. It also applies to the design of the characters to a degree. For example in the simple terms, what made you render the hair in the way you did? I have noticed that shape design has a big impact on art styles. Blocky graphical shapes lead to a very distinct art style that is different from more flowy shapes. It plays into everything from character shapes to defining value(light and dark) shapes to the final rendering. I keep confusing myself as I type more lmao I hope this makes some sense.

I didn't realize the previous version was just a WIP 😂 And I didn't think it could get better but it did! 😍 I thought Leyendecker immediately when I saw it so it definitely translates as inspired by his style so well, but still yours! 🥰 I also noticed the comment about clarity concerning the flower coming from her hand or behind her hand in the previous but damn, you truly did clarify it. It's gorgeous. My new fav of yours but I'm a sucker for Leyendecker and wild poppies and this color palette so 😁💙💙💙 thank you for sharing 🥺💙

I like that you truly made it your own. Leyendecker's style is there, but Loish's style is also there, and there's no clash, you made it work perfectly. Many artists go for a full imitation, or make something in their own style and then add some Leyendecker sprinkles on top. Both options results in beautiful pieces, but yours feels different, like a perfect blend.

Loish

haha that's ok, the last one was 99% done in terms of detail so I don't blame you! glad you like it :)

It came out so amazing! I love the flowers and the hair, but what sticks out to me is the way you rendered the skin, The hands and knees are SO good. I agree with Abhi, a shape design tutorial would be awesome :)

I always love the way you render! It’s like the colors blend and marry so well into each other with the shapes! It kinda reminds me of putting a puzzle together and every part has a place it fits in perfectly!

Loish

thank you kat! gotta give full credit to leyendecker for inspiring me with that. the way he did skin was just so incredible.
