PROCESS VIDEO // wet asphalt - part 2 (Patreon)

Here’s part 2 of the process for my Wet Asphalt study! You can find part 1 here. Again, it’s in real time and you can speed it up or slow it down using the gear button.

For this part of the process, it was mainly about getting those details to a higher level. I alternate a lot between painting and using the lasso tool to work on specific areas. The lasso tool helps a lot to keep the edges sharp, especially when using textured brushes, so that’s why I sometimes select an area and then only paint within that area.

The brush I found most useful was a brush from Viorie’s brush set which is unfortunately only named ‘sampled brush’ (that set is quite chaotic). It turned out to be ideal for this study! Here are the two textured brushes I used in this process: 

For this process I superimposed a photo of a road onto the image to get a bit more realism in the texture. I do this around 1 hour and 7 minutes and it’s really just meant as a finishing touch. I got the texture from textures.com. Another useful trick I used at the end was to create a new layer set to ‘overlay’ and paint some bright orange hues on that layer to amp the warmth of the sunset. That’s something I do around 1 hour and 8 minutes.
