Hey everyone! As promised, here is the process video for my Wet Asphalt drawing! I edited it into two parts. Both videos are about an hour long and they are in real time. If you want to speed it up or slow it down, just use the gear button!

For this part of the process, it was mostly about getting the basics down. I basically add the elements layer by layer, and use the gradient tool to get the colors right. So the first 10 minutes are just about adding these layers one by one, and once I feel like that works, I start gradually adding detail to each area one by one. I start with the clouds, then the stoplights, then some of the details on the street. Gradients were super useful to me in this process in order to get that feeling of the reflective sky. If you’re using procreate, my recent environments tutorial discusses ways to mimic the gradient effect using blur!

Another useful trick I used here was the ‘outer glow’ layer effect. Basically I painted in a light pink color and added a really bright red outer glow to it. That easily mimicked the effect of the stoplights.

I use the hard round brush for most of this process, but I also used some textured brushes. I particularly found “techchelou” from Viorie’s brushset to be really helpful in capturing the lights on the apartment buildings. Because it has a really uneven texture, it creates a lot of visual complexity. Here’s an image showing the textured brushes I used:

Part 2 of this process is coming right up!
