My favorite season is around the corner! September always brings to mind images of apples, fall leaves, the smell of paper and art supplies, and a fresh start. I always dreaded this month as a kid because I hated going back to school, but now as an adult, I love the feeling of new beginnings without the obligation of school! Here's a quick overview of how August went for me:

TRADITIONAL ART

Because I’ve been spending so much time behind a screen lately, I’ve been feeling this deep urge to get away from my computer and draw traditionally again. I’ve also been enormously inspired by artists like Chris Hong and Eleeza, who make beautiful traditional sketches and paintings. This month, I got started with this goal, just to ‘break the ice’ and take out my traditional tools again. It felt great to do and I'm already thinking about what I want to try next! I’ll definitely be doing more of that in September.

TUTORIAL

I’ve worked my way through the 3 poll options since a lot of folks said they wanted all three to be made! For next month, I’m thinking of either going back to procreate, or doing a traditional art tutorial about sketching or inking. I’ve done so many photoshop-based tutorials by now that I think it’s time for something new. As with the previous two tutorials, I’d like to center them around a specific challenge and how to solve it. So if you have any specific things that you struggle with while drawing traditionally or using procreate, let me know! That will help me a lot in figuring out what to make next month’s tutorial about!

As always, thanks so much for your support! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to share them with me through a direct message or e-mail to loishh@gmail.com. Any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you’ll continue to be my patron and enjoy the content coming up next month! ❤

i mainly use photoshop but recently started using procreate and oh my gosh its so different, some cases i find it even harder to use, i don't know why. it's not because of the UI, it just feels different overall. so any kind of tip or peek into workflow would help honestly :D

yeah, because inktober is on the nose, inking tutorial sounds like a great idea 🤓

Oh I'd loved some Procreate tutorials! I improved my art so much since your last tutorial and I would love some tips and advises about how to work more efficiently and also how to make digital art that looks on every screen almost the same (I use a ipad and when I look at my art through my phone it's way darker!) Also Im good with tutorials for tradtional art, especially since Inktober is right around the corner... Maybe you could do a tutorial for inking and how to use volume in ink lines?

Definitely looking forward to more procreate based tutorials, woot woot.

I am looking for Photoshop tutorials:) Especially painting cumulus clouds O:)

My biggest struggle is when I'm shading with a pencil or pen, I often accidentally overshade the face and make them look like they've been beat by the Sun lol. I'd love to see your work process with your favorite traditional supplies 😇

Hey Loish :) can u help us for "How to draw male vs female with faces and body?" and TY ^^/

Loish

hey ximena! i send it out to you through a DM at the end of the month. so you'll be getting one at the end of this month :)

Loish

that's a good topic for some advice - shading the face without over-shading it! will definitely take that into the tutorial!

Loish

yes! i'll definitely be making some procreate tutorials in the future and this month will be an inking tutorial for sure. about getting the image the same on diff screens, unfortunately i have not figured out a solution to that one myself! i think it's inevitable unfortunately.

Loish

i feel the same rebeka! i think it's because i'm so used to keyboard shortcuts and procreate is all about using touch and gesture shortcuts, which are not intuitive for me personally.

Yes,i forget i can turn the image or zoom...and i find myself reaching for the shortkey buttons that aren't even there 😅

Would love to have a list of your most used procreate brush sets. :)

I like someone's suggestiom about male vs female, as I find it harder to make male's portraits (or full body poses even too) interesting (as they are not as "flowy" as female poses). Other than that I'd like a tutorial about composition of the whole painting! :)

Hope you don't mind me interjecting, but since I just happened to see this-- she talks about it here! https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-i-34615265

Hi Lois! Another thank you for being the most responsive and personable Patreon account I follow, I LOVE all the tutorials you've been releasing every month. An idea for another tutorial - Breaking down references and your visual eye. What makes a good reference? What is beautiful light? Why do we like patterns and perspective? What about reflections and particles? How do you intentionally train your brain to see these things?

Techniques for painting skin in procreate. I personally like a more clean, airbrushed look for my finished skin renders, so I would love to see, first of all, how you approach it in procreate, and, second of all, any tips you might have for someone like me who wants a very "perfect" finish. Thanks, Loish!!

Loish

that's an interesting topic for sure! I will add it to the list!

I'm so glad you're enjoying this patreon page! and honestly this is an excellent idea for a tutorial in the future. I love this idea. thanks for the suggestion!
