Hey patrons! Last summer I did a live demo for Syn Studio, and they just uploaded it to youtube for anyone to watch. It runs you through my general workflow and touches on a lot of the topics that I've covered in the tutorials. I figured you guys might enjoy seeing me do a digital sketch from start to finish! 

Also: my procreate rendering tutorial is done, just waiting for the captions to come in :) Will be posting it as soon as that's done!

Digital Painting Demo with Loish

Earlier this summer, students from our Concept Art Diploma Program had the pleasure of being a part of an online Digital Painting Process Demonstration with Dutch Illustrator and Concept Artist, Lois Van Baarle aka Loish. Best known for her recognizable, colorful, and expressive characters, Loish’s client list includes Lego Group, Blizzard Entertainment, Guerilla Games, and Channel 4, among others. Her work has been published in magazines such as ImagineFX issues #2, #65 and #82, Advanced Photoshop issue #9, and 2DArtist Magazine issue #47, among others. In addition to this, she has also published two books: The Sketchbook of Loish and The Art of Loish. Loish has an active social media presence, with over a million followers on Instagram and Facebook. From an American fan - what is the correct pronunciation of your name? I've heard several different pronunciations but I've always been curious if there was a correct/preferred pronunciation?

That was a fantastic breakdown of your process! The way you quickly block in lighting to suddenly make your sketches pop with that rich vibrance and depth is SO magical to watch every time, it's mesmerizing. thanks kevin! they're pretty cool, I was going to visit montreal in person this year to attend the event but unfortunately it was cancelled due to covid! as soon as it's safe to do so I'll be present at their real life event :)

hey ivan! my name is lois and it's just pronounced like how americans say it (low-is). my artist name, loish, is the same but then with the sh sound. low-ish :)
