TUTORIAL // painting & rendering in procreate (Patreon)

I use a lot of different brushes in this process, but don’t feel pressured to use the exact same ones in your painting process! It’s not essential to buy brush sets to get a certain painting effect - you can get great effects with the default procreate brushes as well. Here’s the brushes I used in chronological order:

• Maxpacks Gouache Clean

• RazumInc Pro II Shade

• Maxpacks Gutterpunk (from the gouache set)

• Maxpacks Chunky Inker (from the comics set)

• Maxpacks Gouache Detail Smooth

• Macalabs Procreate Ink

Again, these brushes aren’t essential for this painting process, but if you wanted to invest in a brush set for digital painting, I recommend the Maxpacks Gouache set since it has so many different styles and textures in just one set. Here’s links to all of the brush sets I used in this process:

A quick disclaimer: I created this one in Procreate, but the techniques can be easily applied to Photoshop or any other digital drawing software. So if you’re not a Procreate user, you can still use this tutorial for your painting process! The only difference is the brushes - in Photoshop I would use the Macalabs HB brush and hard round brush to get the same painting effect, and probably use the lasso tool a bit more.
