I've gotten a lot of questions from you guys about whether I'll be doing Inktober, so I wanted to address that in a post! I won't be doing Inktober this time around because I want to try something new. Last year felt a bit like a repeat of the same techniques and approach as the year before, and I didn't feel like I would get the same learning experience out if it by doing the same thing again.

The main thing I really loved from doing Inktober in the past was the challenge of learning a new medium that I had never tried before, and being amazed to discover that I was able to improve and learn if I pushed myself past my comfort zone. This year I want to branch out even further and try different kinds of paints. The pressure of drawing every day was kind of extreme for me, so this year I’m going to try a different medium and theme each week, with some wiggle room to decide which days I’ll paint. I decided to call this challenge #Brushtober - you can see which medium & theme I'll be working on in the little schedule above!

I’m scared to go outside of my digital art comfort zone, but it’s always been worth it in the past and I’m excited to see what I will learn! I will of course be sharing as much of that journey as I can with you guys! Feel free to join if you like, I know it's very short notice - I only just came up with the idea this week. If you wanna join, there are no rules, just have fun ❤️

Are you guys doing any drawing challenges this month? If so, which one?

I'm avoiding Inktober after the bullshit moves the creator pulled this last year (trying to monetize it and prevent others from doing so, claiming copyright over the name after years of it being open ended for everyone, etc). I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up with it but this year I'm trying Interiortober - https://twitter.com/monwinvo/status/1310446899258888194

Your #brushtober looks exciting! It was quite amazing to watch you adapt to an unfamiliar medium within just a few days in the past. Be fearless! :) I‘m going to follow the official inktober prompt list again this year. I‘ve found that the random, unthemed prompts really help me to come up with ideas and pick my own subject. Hopefully I‘ll generate a few good sketches to take further after Inktober., probably experimenting with mixing 2D / 3D.

This looks like it'll be fun!

very exciting, the official prompts can be a really great motivator for coming up with new ideas! good luck with the challenge this year :)

#brushtober seems interesting!! Its been a while since a draw and painted anything with a brush (I work mostly digitally and with markers). I wanna take part in the challenge and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do <3 I wonder: are you planning to show process via video/ pictures? I'd love to see your approach on these techniques.

I’m going to be doing something similar to your brushtober idea. I’m planning to try some new things, and also to try to post every day with what I’m actually working on, not necessarily just finished pieces, just to show my work each day for a month. I plan to work mostly digitally, but to try some new types of brushes in procreate as I’ve been in a rut using mostly just my two favorite brushes and a couple variations on them that I’ve made. Going to try using more brushes from Max Ulichney’s Max packs, and various others that I’ve had sitting unused in procreate lately.

I love seeing what everyone's up to! I'm doing @furrylittlepeach's #peachtober20 since the prompts are pretty straightforward. Just some cute ideas to get started with and keep practicing :)

i've heard so many people participating in that one! I'm gonna check it out!

that sounds like it will be great for your creativity! max packs brushes are super fun, they are definitely good for experimenting and trying stuff out.

This sounds so great! I also did inktober twice and now I wanted to do something else, because I have no problem with working in black and white but I struggle with color. I do a mix out of peachtober, plastober and dinotober because I couldn't decide for one :D

Great! I like to join your challenge theme :D

This year I’ve created my own prompt list about Fashion Illustration. I call it InkFaZhion

Ah I can't wait to see what you come up with! This year, I'm doing a challenge based on my original character Mr. Pumpkin! It's just 8 prompts (2 a week) for the month. Less prompts means more time to focus on each full illustration. If you want to take a peek, here's my insta where I've posted the first prompt! https://www.instagram.com/misschibiartist/

Hi. Thank you for coming up with “brushtober”. I’m looking forward to seeing your work! Yes, I’ll join you. I’m relatively new to digital painting so I’ll be working with different digital brushes and painting styles. I think it will be a great opportunity to experiment and try new things.

that's awesome! i've seen a few people interpret the challenge this way and I like that a lot! i believe cubebrush is hosting a challenge like that (with the same name, purely a coincidence) and is offering discounts on brushes thru their site.

i love that idea! it's so cute and i love what you did for the first prompt!
