Hey guys!

Lets take a look at all the new ideology structures coming in the Vanilla Ideology Expanded - Memes and Structures.

A structure is a foundation meme that dictates what your ideology is about. Do they revere any gods? Do they have Christian sculptures? Do they have a Christmas tree event happening in winter? These things are actually covered in vanilla game.

However, many are not. Our structures are meant to open new ways of playing ideologies, with custom written, procedurally generated narratives, role and leader names, event names, custom styles, music, motes etc.

There is some styles that we clearly found missing in the DLC - and that's our number one dogma in VE - always add what we find missing.

Where is Shinto or Taoism in vanilla? Where is some cool cult-like structure? Such things do not exist, and thus, I present to you:

I know Serketism doesn't have art for Recon, Marine and Cataphract helmets yet. We're still waiting on those!

The mod has now entered second stage of testing, we fixed 30 bugs in one evening, I'm tempted to say it's going great!

Let me know what you think!

I'm looking forward to playing a organ harvesting corporate overlords for real now!

Nice, time to planify which memes my next colony will use. I hope testing goes well and its released in two weeks!

These are great

this all looks phenomenal. I'm so excited for this mod to drop.

Will there be a structure expansion pack for the Vanilla Expanded Furniture that you added? Would be nice if the Vanilla Expanded Furniture items followed the same structure rules by changing their appearance depending style of the ideology chosen. Just an example* Currently following a Techist styled Ideology. I've used lots of single shelves which don't follow the Techist style. Looks a little strange next to the double shelf which does!

These all look great! There is one thing that I have a question about, what happens when you have a hedonistic culture but an Asexual pawn? Do they just not do anything with the orgy or?

Anonymous

Is corruption hard linked to the Eldritch, or can non-Eldritch custom ideoligions (e.g. Doom's UAC) use it as well?

Anonymous

Asexual people can partake in things like that, if anything I’d just say it’s a conflictive trait.

oskarpotocki

All pawns above the age of 18 can partake in orgy if they are added to the orgy ritual.

oskarpotocki

Now let me explain why. Orgy being a ritual is not something you do ‘for fun’. It’s a social obligation in your ideology. It might be a bad comparison but even deaf Christians attend mass. It’s more than the sum of the feelings, it’s more spiritual. Asexual pawns take part in an orgy because it’s expected from them as followers of that religion. If blind pawns can take part in sky lanterns festival in vanilla, I’m sure asexual pawns can take part in an orgy.

The Elderitch one looks too fun! I'm afraid I won't use any other origin structures for several playthroughs

oskarpotocki

I do believe it's 'hard' linked, as in, you'd need to change a tiny bit of xml to make it available for every ideology.

As an asexual dumbass myself, I'd say it still makes sense for an asexual pawn to take part in an orgy but they'll just be doing different things. Touching can be very sensual/intimate whilst not being sexual in any way, and cuddling is something I'm very much into so I'd be doing that in an orgy. And if even that doesn't float your boat, they can just hand out refreshments and towels while taking part. But yes, they can still participate, getting some lovin' doesn't just have to include sex.

Anonymous

Thanks for the explanation! (And sorry if I came off as criticizing, was more curious than anything)

oskarpotocki

No no, you're fine, I just need to give my reasoning before Kotaku says I discriminate asexual people :P

It could be rude question but I wonder why you decide to combine Chinese Taoism and Japanese Shinto. Those are totally different and unique culture.I understan Shintoa is original new religion but many Japanese and Chinese would not like it.

Some of the styles only have a unique ritual music listed, but no vfx. Are they intended to have no unique vfx? If so, which one will they take from? Even having slightly different colours to the ritual is good enough, since base game ideology does that with buddhism, islam, hindu to just name a few that are merely copies of each other with different colors.

oskarpotocki

In order for a structure to have unique VFX, it needs a style. Style is the same thing that changes graphics of items etc. These structures don’t have planned styles, and adding a style just to have ‘a different mote’ will mean you will occupy the entire Style slot with something that only changes a mote, instead of for example Totemic or Morbid. Because these structures don’t have styles, all rituals will use the other styles of your ideology - if you have Pain Don’t Care or Raider, it will be morbid style etc.

Modest suggestion: if you're far enough on the ideology flavor texts, you should make a sample ideology, and post a screenshot here and to Reddit as a teaser. Something suitably RimWorld wacky and over-the-top, like Cannibal, Insect Worshipping Corporate.

The game takes place 3000 years into the future. One would assume both of these religions joined together for survival. Shinto and Daoism are both about balance, harmony, attracting oppositesand venerating ancestry. There is more similarities between them than you probably realize. Shinto has 3 million followers worldwide. Daoism has 20 million. Christianity has 2.5 billion followers (lower estimate). Shinto and Daoism together only have a 1% of followers compared to Christianity. This is an argument for them two merging into one ideology to survive 3 thousand years.

oskarpotocki

Second argument is work required to make structures. I can't spare enough hours to accomodate both Shinto and Daoism. Each structure takes hours upon hours of work, both art-wise as well as creative writing-wise. I wouldn't do one without doing the other, so at this point it was a choice between merging them to make one, more complex structure, or not doing them at all. While I understand some people might not like it, there are some ideologies not covered AT ALL in the game - Judaism, Sikhism etc. At least now people who want to have a Shinto or Daoism inspired religion can use the new, merged one.

oskarpotocki

Out of curiosity: Would you prefer me NOT to do Shinto, Daoism or Shintaoism at all, or would you prefer to have a new Shintao structure in your game?

oskarpotocki

This is not currently planned simply because of how much work it is. It's literally pretty much doing 2x as much furniture as that specific mod has.

I know it's a late catch, but it looks like the Eldritch Cult doesn't have any unique sorts of ritual wear, like many-eyed visage mask, Nyarlethotep's hood, or even just scribbly runes all over a robe. Seems a tad odd, considering the common portrayals of eldritch cultists.

I saw the discussion about Daoism and Shinto and I just want to speak a little bit about what I think of it. As a Daoism myself, I was disappointed not seeing Daoism in the base DLC and was looking for mods like this. Although Daoism and Shinto are different cultures, they do share similarities, and your explanation about why you merge them together makes sense to me (It’s a game after all) . I believe many people would think the same with me, and thank you again for making my religion into the game!
