i think you need to rewatch that diner scene because brian wasn’t making ethan some offer where he’d have to choose his work or justin. he was telling him about a fake commercial being shot that needs a violinist to try to buy some time until justin got there. it was done to create a meeting to “introduce them” to show them both that he knew what they were up to. it’s why ethan got so cagey when he gave him his name and card because he realized who brian was and that’s why brian stared so hard at justin when he got to the table. ethan knew there was no actual offer and this was a setup so his leaving his card didn’t mean anything but still an interesting take. that scene is so satisfying to watch and one of my favorites because the game was finally up and they knew that he knew. it’s why justin apologized for not telling him when he got home later. he knew he was in the wrong. small little tidbit i loved was brian using the phrase “ridiculously romantic” in that diner scene because it called back to him calling their prom dance the same thing in the s1 finale. i’m sorry but i can’t truly blame brian for this situation. he has kept up his side of their agreement and commitment. now should he do better and tell justin with words how he feels? yes absolutely but i do understand why that is hard for him to do. so ultimately justin needs to make a choice about what he wants and if that’s enough for him. if it’s not, then leave. he doesn’t have to be with brian, it’s not a situation of choosing between ethan and brian. he could always be alone, no one is forcing him to stay. also justin has actively been cheating for weeks/months so i’m never gonna be able to fully side with him either. it’s a shitty situation. that scene at the loft when brian holds justin in bed, i don’t think brian is happy at all. he didn’t “know he’d be back” or get what he wanted, maybe rewatch that one too, actually watch brian’s face the entire time. its not like he thinks he has him, he knows he has lost him. he was simply offering him some comfort and mourning his own loss of him in that moment. it’s one of my favorite scenes of the whole series. super devastating but so well acted. the symbolism of brian taking his mask off and then putting it back on when justin walked away. gah this show is soooo good when it wants to be! excited for your reaction to 3x01 based on your reaction to the michael and justin scene in this. i have soooo many thoughts and i can’t wait to share them. i understand michael being protective of his best friend but he definitely needs to tone it down and not involve himself. this got so long but what an episode! this show always knows how to do finales. s3 is my favorite season so i can’t wait for you to start it and that we get two episodes tomorrow/soon. thank you to ophelia for requesting so many episodes all the time. i’m so grateful.

I love this episode. This show really knows how to make a finale, lol. I think Brian was mad and gave up, he wanted to hurt Justin like he was hurting. I think after their 'break up' scene in the loft, it was just about hurting Justin. I think he did comfort Justin when they were in bed together, I don't really think he was happy about it, he knew what was happening. I think the moment where he takes off the mask though, he's like 'oh shit. wait.' Like he was purposefully hurting Justin but, like usual, wasn't thinking all the way through it. That being said, I still have always felt kinda icky about the situation on Justin's part. There are better ways to deal with this than cheating on Brian, and he didn't really seem remorseful about it at all. Like Michael kinda has a point, like I don't really understand how Justin can be mad because he was caught cheating. Michael shouldn't have brought it up when he did, and could have been nicer about it, but Michael did nothing wrong, Justin's the one who doesn't want to admit he made a mistake too. Also, it feels kinda shitty to make out with Ethan in front of their friends. Like not just Brian, but Michael and Debbie at least saw as well. I feel like the 'he saved you' is somewhat understandable. Like, you don't own anyone anything, like even Brian says that a million times in this show. But from Michael's point-of-view, his best friend took in this 'annoying, immature teenager' whose father beat him up and gave him somewhere to live. And let's be honest, Justin was a bit of a handful at the time. Then his best friend let this kid hang out, had Debbie take him in when it was too much for him, fell for him. Then his best friend's world is shaken when this kid is bashed and he's feels responsible for it. He takes him in again, pays for everything, defends him against his father and his bullies, pay for his college, etc. Throughout all of this, you warn the kid that he's not going to change. Then he cheats on your best friend and just blames him for it, after everything your best friend did for him. Michael doesn't know everything like we do, he doesn't see every conversation and interaction between them. This is all he really knows about the situation as a whole. Just an interesting thing to think about it. Not saying I personally agree with any of that, but I think that's where Michael is coming from. And, like you, ever since Ethan showed up, he's just kinda off to me. I don't really like the confidence of him. Like, it's kinda funny because Brian is super cocky as well but in a weird way it's way more charming than Ethan's cockiness, at least to me. So I kinda get where you are coming from with the 'kinda weird' idea about Ethan. I think you misunderstood the Ethan and Brian scene a bit. Brian wasn't offering him anything dramatic or life-changing, it was just a ploy to get him in the diner when Justin walks in for work. Brian being Brian isn't brave enough to just talk about it and has to make a scene like always. I love Ben and Michael. Lol, I can't say it enough. And it was so hard during the first season to even think of a positive thing to say or to hear you say positive stuff about David when I knew Ben was around the corner, lol. Ted and Emmett. I have such mix feelings, but I think they are cute. It caught me off-guard but in the best kinda way.

lmao not the david shade but you’re so right. i always skip those scenes on rewatch because no thank you. ben is on the horizon. having you list out all the things, i can definitely see why michael is upset and yeah justin being pissed that he ratted him out for cheating is a bit weird given he was the one in the wrong. i guess i’ve never really thought of how not really remorseful he comes across about it.

That's a perfect way of putting it with Ethan, Brian is cocky but charming, Ethan is cocky and makes me nervous lol I was def a little confused by the diner scene because when Ethan walks away Brian says the jobs yours if you want it, so I thought he was offering him a commercial deal for a lot of cash.
