“he doesn’t owe me anything” “what about the truth?” love that exchange! one because some people (including michael in this particular situation) think that everything they do for you must be repaid or you owe them in some way and brian doesn’t think that. never has never will when it comes to justin. he does the things he does for him because he wants to, he doesn’t expect anything in return. but i do agree with michael that justin owes him the truth. the fact that he can go on and have this affair and then go home like nothing has happened always rubs me the wrong way. so yeah i do think i’m more on brian’s side of this whole thing. while i understand justin’s actions, he can’t have both. he has to make a choice. cheating isn’t okay. and brian isn’t stupid, he knows he’s messing around but of course it being more than just a fuck does hurt him. it’s curious how michael doesn’t see that in this episode. brian’s reaction when he brings up it being too bad justin isn’t there at the end and his wanting to leave right away should have been obvious but he tells ben he didn’t care. always thought that was a weird writing choice. “go take a shower, you stink” that ending scene is so impactful! it’s what justin told him earlier in the episode when brian tried bringing him closer but he has just come home from being with someone else. this arc may not be my favorite but it has some of the best scenes. i think justin is fully there in that final scene, he clearly wanted it, he’s just worried brian will realize he was with someone else and he doesn’t want him to know. i do love the callback to brian being able to smell it on him. i think ted falling for emmett was kinda inevitable. emmett is the sweetest person ever it’s a surprise it hasn’t happened sooner. i’ve always loved their friendship, it’ll be interesting to see how that potentially transitions into something more.

I'm always so back and forth with Brian and Justin. Like I get both sides completely. It's funny, every time I've watched this show I've switched whose side I'm kinda on. I came in this rewatch more on Brian's side, but even hearing your explanation is making me a little more Justin, then the comments a little more Brian, lol. They are just not working right now, and like you said, it's a huge teaching moment for both of them at the end. I also just really love both of their characters so much, I really can't pick or really be bias towards either. I think Brian is such a complex character and I really think he is one of those "makes the show" kinda characters. But Justin is also such an amazing, strong, brave character who you cannot not absolutely love and want to defend and side with no matter what, because you know what he has been through. I also feel like it kinda interesting because sometimes it feels very much like "Justin's story". Like we hop into this group with Justin, everything we know and have seen has been since Justin was around. Justin was also young and unexperienced just in life, so we have seen basically all his learning and changes and experiences. While all the other characters, we have to hear a lot about their experiences or lives before Justin pops up. Like we know a lot about them all, but we know EVERYTHING about Justin. Just an interesting thought. I really like the little hints we are getting of Ted falling for Emmett. Like you, during my first watch, I didn't really see it coming, but I think it's very sweet. I absolutely love Ben and Michael. Now that we are further into the relationship, I feel like I can confidently say they are one of my favorite (maybe favorite?) couples on the show without it spoiling that Ben is just a couple episode character, lol. I just think him and Michael match so well, they are so different but that's what kinda perfect about them. They are different in a way that just didn't work for David and Michael's differences, but works perfectly for Ben and Michael's.

that’s funny because when i first watched the show back in the day i was definitely more on justin’s side but the past two rewatches i’ve been more brian. it’s a complicated little situation. it helps to see both sides so neither are fully blameless or at fault. ben and michael really are so great. they’re easily the most stable relationship on the show and that helps when everything else is chaos. bless them actually being good at communication lol they’re definitely in my top 2.

I always thought that that part with Michael saying to Ben that Brian doesn't seem to care was to show that at the end of the day, even Brian's closest friend doesn't know Brian COMPLETELY. Brian does a good job of putting a front up. He can't let others know how deep his emotions go because that's scary. Ironically, the times we see his emotions come out the most are always situations about Justin. Kid just... wiggled his way in there didn't he?
