Chapter 345: I Don't Swing That Way

The stone box looked like a miniature sacrificial hall, perfectly square with four raised corners, and a crescent moon placed horizontally on top.

Previously, Luo and Ging were focused on investigating this place, essentially forgetting about the black cat. They had no idea where he found this stone box, but now he excitedly rushed into the sacrificial hall.

Ging’s eyes were full of caution; it was his first time encountering such strong resentment.

Resentment doesn’t only remain after a Nen user dies. Ordinary people, under certain conditions, can also leave behind resentment after death.

People sometimes hear ghost stories and see shamans performing rituals; these aren’t entirely fake.

Truth always lies within the blend of reality and illusion. Out of a hundred instances, there might be one true one, but most people prefer to believe in the majority.

When an ordinary person reaches the pinnacle in a certain field, they may unconsciously leave behind Nen. After death, if the conditions are right, the resentment, amplified by mental stimulation before death, can become stronger.

Compared to the Nen of the living, the resentment left after death is particularly troublesome. It has a characteristic: without external interference, it never dissipates.

Sanbica’s master once explored an ancient tomb in his youth, seemingly the tomb of an ancient general. When they entered the tomb, the bones buried there were manipulated by resentment and attacked them.

This resentment might have been left by the general. It doesn’t mean the general was a Nen user, but perhaps a very strong-willed ordinary person.

However, there is a difference between the resentment left by ordinary people and Nen users; the former is never as strong as the latter.

Ging had visited many ruins, some discovered but not excavated further, some excavated and turned into tourist attractions, and others sealed off and never exposed. In many places, he had seen a lot of resentment.

Some of these resentments were very aggressive, while others were weak, incapable of causing substantial harm to ordinary people. Yet, the intensity of the resentment emanating from this stone box surpassed any he had seen so far.

“Where did you find this?”

Compared to Ging’s high alertness, Luo was not only calm but also slightly excited.

Resentment of such strength is something that even Nen users hesitate to approach recklessly. Even exorcists must carefully consider whether they can completely dispel it.

It’s worth mentioning that exorcists are bound by the rules of contracts and vows when dispelling resentment. Their principle is to first significantly weaken the Nen on the host, then transfer it to themselves.

So, whether the transferred posthumous Nen can be dispelled is the deciding factor for exorcists!

Luo, with the help of the White Smoke Font, was free from most exorcists' concerns. This stone box, which could repel most exorcists, was seen by him as a valuable treasure.

“Found it on a corpse. His clothes were different from the others.” The black cat casually tossed the stone box filled with intense resentment to Luo.

This careless action looked like a Nen beast trying to murder its master in Ging’s eyes. He raised his eyes immediately.

The next second, he saw Luo catch the stone box unscathed, and the resentment surging on the box didn’t attack him.

After catching the stone box, the White Smoke Font immediately gave Luo the option to absorb it.

The data for the six major categories had already exceeded the safety threshold by more than sixty percent. The purity of the resentment in this stone box was astonishingly high. Even if absorbing it might yield useful memory fragments, Luo dared not absorb it recklessly.

If it exceeded sixty percent, his body would forcibly enter Zetsu. In the current environment, that would be no different from seeking death.

Luo chose not to absorb it and picked up the stone box to examine it. The box’s exterior resembled a sacrificial hall, but there were no visible seams, appearing as a whole piece.

The black cat floated over, seeking credit. “Since I found this for you, how will you reward me?”

“A fish?”

Luo didn’t even lift his head, responding casually.

The black cat’s face was already very black, and now it seemed like it would be invisible at night. Angrily, it said, “I’ve never seen someone so shameless. Aren’t those fish caught by me?”

Luo lazily looked up and said, “Then what do you want as a reward?”

“Let me kill two hundred people?” The black cat looked at Luo expectantly, fearing he wouldn’t agree, and quickly changed to, “How about a hundred? Just those vicious criminals in prison.”

Killing a pig could turn the pages black, but only human targets would yield the best results.

“Still, a fish is better.”

Luo turned his back to the black cat and looked at Ging, who had a face full of surprise.

Surprised by the conversation between Luo and the black cat, and also by the fact that the resentment on the stone box could coexist peacefully with Luo.

Ging took a step toward Luo, intending to ask a question, but the black resentment on the stone box suddenly seemed stimulated, like a tsunami, showing strong aggression towards Ging.

Ging stopped, even more puzzled.

From the behavior of the resentment, it belonged to the highly aggressive type, yet it had no reaction to Luo.

“It seems you can’t touch it unless the resentment on the box is removed.”

Luo casually remarked and tossed the stone box to the resentment-filled black cat for safekeeping.

“But it doesn’t react to you at all.” Ging’s eyes followed the stone box, curiosity evident on his face.

“Because I’m an exorcist.”

Luo calmly started bluffing. He could never reveal the existence of the White Smoke Font. Whenever others noticed his special abilities, he wouldn’t avoid talking but would give a reason that allowed them to make their own assumptions.

Ging wasn’t the type to make baseless guesses. Such behavior would often lead the facts off track.

He knew Luo had the ability to exorcise Nen, but exorcising doesn’t mean being able to coexist peacefully with resentment. However, he didn’t press further and instead asked, “Can you dispel it on the spot?”

More than Luo’s hidden secrets, this was what he valued.

“I can, but after dispelling the Nen, I’ll enter Zetsu for a while. Given the current situation, it’s impossible for me to do it.” Luo explained.

Ging’s expression turned serious. He looked at Luo solemnly and said, “You could have just said it’s impossible. There’s no need to tell me such important information. If I wanted to harm you, I could use this information against you.”

“For example, hiring someone to disguise as a nouveau riche and offer you an irresistible reward to exorcise Nen. Afterward, they could deal with you while you’re in Zetsu.”

His serious tone was a cautious reminder for Luo not to casually reveal such critical information.

From Ging’s standpoint, it wasn’t surprising to offer such advice. But he didn’t fully understand Luo’s certain behaviors, which were based on his judgment of people and situations.

“You wouldn’t.” Luo smiled confidently and said, “After all, you’ve found someone who shares your goal about that place. Why would you harm me? Besides, you’re Ging Freecss.”

Hearing this, Ging scratched his head and said disdainfully, “I don’t swing that way.”

Luo was speechless. How do you even know that term? Are you surfing the internet in your spare time?
