Chapter 296: Instant Second

The five-headed scale lizards flew back to the prison, intending to transport the island's inhabitants to the shore, while the other five stayed to restrain Luo with a clear division of labor.

The five at the shore skimmed low, carrying an unstoppable momentum, attacking from behind Luo.

At this moment, the advantage of the magical beasts was evident. The scale lizards were incredibly fast, catching up to Luo in a few breaths.

Swish!

The leading scale lizard positioned itself well, its wing spines straight and aimed at Luo's back, sweeping across.

Luo, as if he had eyes on his back, leaped forward into the air, dodging the wing sweep of the scale lizard, slightly twisting his body mid-air, and stomped down hard on the back of the scale lizard with his foot wrapped in Nen.

The powerful force transmitted through his foot made a loud thud as Luo stomped the scale lizard to the ground. In an instant, the ground cracked outward like a spider web.

Then, the second scale lizard swept across in the same manner. Luo, already out of momentum, could only sidestep, narrowly dodging the second scale lizard's attack, followed by the third and the fourth...

The gaps between the attacks were almost nonexistent, continuously coming without giving Luo a chance to breathe.

However, Luo effortlessly dodged the relentless onslaught of the second, third, and fourth scale lizards. Facing the fifth scale lizard, he delivered a frontal kick to its chest, sending it flying into the air.

The whole process took just over a second. The three scale lizards that Luo had passed adjusted their direction mid-air and launched an attack on Luo again, while the one previously stomped into the ground stood up immediately.

Seeing the scale lizard that had endured his solid kick seemingly unharmed, Luo's brows furrowed.

That kick had instantly unleashed fifty percent of his Nen, yet it could stand up right away. Perhaps its back was particularly strong?

However, with that kick, he should have transmitted the virus to that scale lizard. Even if he couldn't bring it down with one kick, it didn't matter much in the grand scheme.

Luo thought to himself as he faced the oncoming three scale lizards.

After close contact, he realized the scale lizards' defense was not to be underestimated. Although they used Nen, their flaw was that they did not know how to control it freely.

Their Nen, always at maximum output, was like a glaring light in the darkness. Even without looking, Luo could catch the movements of the scale lizards.

Relying on this, Luo met the three troublesome scale lizards head-on. Even while holding Sanbica, he still easily dodged them and headed into the dense forest.

After swiftly passing the three scale lizards, they quickly changed direction, and the first scale lizard, while pursuing Luo, suddenly fell from mid-air to the ground, rolling far before shakily standing up.

It was Sanbica's virus.

Luo, holding Sanbica, also needed to allocate some of his energy to deal with the virus, so he couldn't attack the scale lizards with his full strength. Yet the virus that suppressed Luo became a useful tool, causing the scale lizards to fall without shedding blood.

Despite this, Luo was still very concerned about the scale lizards' defense.

At this moment, the black cat finally arrived from the side.

Luo, with a face tinged with dark green, turned to look at the black cat, his voice cold: "Knife."

Understanding, the black cat spat out the True Master from his mouth and handed it to Luo.

"Protect Sanbica. If she loses even a single hair..."

Luo, with one arm around Sanbica and the other holding the knife, stared at the black cat with a terrifying look in his eyes.

The black cat trembled slightly. He too wanted to become stronger, which is why he took advantage of this rare opportunity. After so long, he finally increased his Nen reserves fivefold.

Isn't it hard for me...!

The black cat screamed internally!

However, he knew well that Luo held the initiative. Even if he wanted to make a sneaky move, he couldn't go too far, or Luo might sacrifice his Nen abilities to erase him.

Originally, he thought the prison's strength was just so-so. Even if Luo was down to thirty percent of his Nen, escaping unscathed wouldn't be difficult. But the sudden appearance of the bizarre magical beasts made the prison unexpectedly formidable.

Now he couldn't be naughty anymore. Whether it was Luo or Sanbica, he had to protect them well. It was just unknown how much Nen would be consumed in the process, which he had painstakingly accumulated.

"Don't worry, if something happens to this little lady, I'll accompany her in

 death."

Knowing that he had already taken enough risk, the black cat didn't dare to mess around anymore. He quickly straightened up and spoke earnestly, a silver flame pattern imprinted on his forehead, a vow he had made.

Just as he said, if Sanbica were to die under his protection, his soul would also perish, almost self-erasing.

Luo said nothing, handed the unconscious Sanbica to the black cat, and then walked forward with the knife for a distance, watching the three scale lizards gathering momentum.

During the recent clash, Luo had hit two of the scale lizards, each strike containing significant Nen force. Although it didn't knock down the scale lizards, with Sanbica's virus, those two scale lizards had already lost their combat ability.

Now, three scale lizards remained.

The five scale lizards flying toward the island seemed primarily to bring the island's enemies to the shore. Before they could succeed, Luo needed to quickly deal with these three scale lizards and then make his escape.

Luo's right arm, holding the knife, hung down to his side, the rusty blade angled downward, the tip lightly touching the ground.

Bright Nen seemed to cover the virus's dark green, slowly flowing over Luo's body, then rippling onto the True Master, staining the rusty blade with a dark green hue.

He stared at the scale lizards, expressionless.

The scale lizards flapped their wings and approached, no shrieking sound, only the noise of wings cutting through the air.

Just as fast, flying low and sweeping with their wings, this time coming simultaneously from the left, center, and right, forming a pincer attack.

Luo's eyes narrowed slightly, his body darted forward, passing through the gaps left by the three scale lizards. In that passing moment, his knife moved.

Three dark green blade flashes swept across the bodies of the three scale lizards, appearing suddenly and vanishing quickly.

Silently, the three scale lizards that had crossed Luo were instantly bisected in mid-air, then fell heavily to the ground.

No blood, no shrieking, the bisected scale lizards struggled on the ground, their vitality still robust.

These three cuts, while not causing substantial damage to the scale lizards, were enough to impair their mobility. Now, coupled with Sanbica's virus, it wouldn't be long before these three scale lizards would die from the infection.

Luo sheathed his knife, not looking back at the three scale lizards behind him, but gazing toward the distant island. With his vision, he could vaguely see the magical beasts gradually emerging from the prison, about a hundred in number.

After just a few glances, Luo snorted coldly, then withdrew his gaze, turning to run quickly towards the black cat and Sanbica.

He needed to find a secluded place to treat Sanbica's injuries and to inform Netero of what he had discovered.

The two of them, along with the cat, disappeared into the dense forest.

At this time, the remaining five scale lizards had only flown half the distance across the lake.

On the island, Dove put down his binoculars, his expression quite grim.

"Damn that guy."

He cursed softly.

But he had to admit, that guy was not only strong but terrifyingly so.

Even in a poisoned state, he could instantly kill a scale lizard with a single slice.

These hundreds of artificial soldiers, he knew their details well—not to mention their attack power, just the defense formed by their magical beast bodies combined with Nen was enough to contend with top-tier Nen users.

Yet, they were resolved so easily.
