Chapter 291: Bloodbath

Compared to Luo who encountered two proficient Nen users, Black Cat had it much easier. He sauntered into the building, not encountering a single Nen user. Instead, his beastly form drew the attention of many prison guards.

Ordinary bullets posed no threat to Black Cat. Faced with guards intent on annihilating him, he dispatched them unceremoniously with swipes of his claws.

Along the way, he left behind nothing but a trail of mangled corpses.

With Luo's authorization, Black Cat wouldn’t miss this opportunity. Regardless of the consequences, encountering anyone meant slaying them!

In less than half an hour after entering the building, Black Cat had almost filled two hundred pages of Luo's book of darkness with names.

Murder was murder, but Black Cat still fulfilled Luo’s demand. While killing, he also searched for Sanbica's location, though somewhat half-heartedly.

During this half-hour, Sanbica remained unfound, but many guards were slaughtered.

Accidentally, he ended up in the area housing the prisoners’ cells.

“Hmm…”

Gazing at the clusters of prisoners caged in their cells, Black Cat licked his lips, his silver eyes flashing a chilling light.

To him, these vicious criminals were like turkeys waiting to be slaughtered.

...

The section where Sanbica was located was in a disused cell, still enclosed by transparent glass. Sanbica curled up in the corner, his green life zone now less than two meters in diameter.

Dove picked up his cellphone and asked, “What happened?”

“Bear and Shark are dead.” A voice reported from the other end of the phone.

Dove's eyes narrowed as he asked sternly, “Their identities? How many?”

“The enemy's identity is unknown. Just one person and possibly a magical black panther.”

It went unsaid that the person capable of killing Bear and Shark was no ordinary individual.

Dove glanced at the glass cell containing Sanbica and said, “Set sail is postponed. Handle the enemy first and keep me updated.”

“Yes!”

Dove put down his phone, his expression gradually turning colder. He bowed his head slightly, murmuring a strange chant—a eulogy for the deceased Bear and Shark.

A flicker of guilt crossed his mind—if not for his insistence on acquiring Sanbica’s abilities, the team would have set sail two hours ago, and Shark and Bear wouldn’t have died.

But the guilt was fleeting.

For the same goal, sacrifices were inevitable. To overthrow a country, a mere hundred bio-engineered soldiers were far from sufficient; a variety of tricky biochemical weapons were also needed!

Sanbica's arrival was an unexpected boon, significantly bolstering the weak link of biochemical weapons, and had become an extremely important pawn in the plan.

Waiting for the moment to implant the zombie mushrooms into Sanbica’s body justified any sacrifice!

Although the identity of the invader was unclear, Dove knew that this invader was definitely connected to the Hunter Association.

That day, although Shark had managed to smash the cellphone Sanbica had snatched from a member of the organization, it seemed the message had still been sent; otherwise, the enemy’s response wouldn’t have been so swift.

“Hmph, officially applying on the surface but sending someone to bypass the International Peace Organization in the shadows. How is this different from the old Seiren Squad’s actions? Both are about achieving objectives regardless of the rules!”

“The one who officially disbanded the Seiren Squad was you, and now it’s still you continuing their methods.”

“Issac Netero, you’re truly hypocritical.”

Dove muttered coldly to himself. After speaking, he stared intently at Sanbica inside the glass room.

Hurry, just a bit faster.

All the companions who had escaped disasters couldn’t wait any longer.

Let there be corpses everywhere or suffering souls; what they wanted was the downfall of a nation, to see countless lives struggle and wail in their death throes.

...

Realizing that the invader was not to be underestimated, the remnants of the Seiren Squad wouldn’t rashly mobilize to encircle Luo. Instead, they directed all remaining guards to confront Luo.

As for the black panther, when the remnants saw through the surveillance that it was slaughtering the inmates, they ignored it, focusing all their efforts on Luo.

For a moment, this prison, hiding various secrets, began to emit an increasingly intense smell of blood.

The massacre truly began.

Taking advantage of the situation, Black Cat slaughtered the defenseless prisoners, while Luo, concerned for Sanbica’s safety, showed no mercy to the guards encircling him. He killed them one by one, or in pairs if they came that way!

The consequences of this action, the impacts it would create, and whether it would

make them enemies of the state, none of these were of concern to Luo.

Driven by the remnants of the Seiren Squad, the guards didn’t rush in all at once but fought in batches, creating a semblance of a war of attrition, though their goal was to use the lives of the guards to gauge Luo’s Nen abilities.

Their plan was effective; indeed, they measured some of Luo’s Nen abilities—he could stop bullets from all directions and then retaliate.

Meanwhile, in the cell block, hundreds of inmates were being slaughtered by Black Cat at an alarmingly high rate. Even though these prisoners deserved immediate execution, Black Cat’s motivation was not to cleanse sin.

Leaving behind a ground covered with corpses, Black Cat contentedly left the cell block. Afterwards, he found that no more guards were coming to trouble him.

“I can’t be too lazy.”

Thinking that he had already taken advantage of the situation to collect hundreds of lives, he should be satisfied. If he were to get greedy, it would spell trouble.

With that thought, he transformed into black smoke, earnestly carrying out Luo’s orders.

As black smoke, his speed was extremely fast. He could seep into any crevice, thus enhancing the efficiency of his search.

Twelve years ago, the number of prisoners held in Klotho Prison was over seventy thousand. Today, the number had sharply declined to less than a thousand.

From seventy thousand to one thousand—the numerical difference was made up of living lives, not something that could be explained away by natural deaths. Most had died unnaturally, either used in experiments or fed to magical beasts.

Considering the high cost of transporting prisoners to Klotho Prison, the number of incoming prisoners had decreased in recent years, explaining the current low prisoner count.

Although the number of prisoners rapidly decreased, the number of guards had not changed much. These veterans, retired from the battlefield, were thoroughly abandoned here, supposedly to spend the rest of their days in retirement.

Now, the arrival of the invader provided them with a chance to fight, as well as a reason to die in battle.

While Luo was being delayed by the guards coming at him in waves, Black Cat found Sanbica.

After the sharp decrease in prisoner numbers, a large part of the cell block had been abandoned, and Sanbica was in this abandoned area, while Black Cat was in the active cell block area.

Both places were in the same large area. As Black Cat moved like smoke, he originally intended to quickly search the abandoned cell block and leave, but unexpectedly, he found Sanbica there.

Transforming from smoke into his panther form, Black Cat landed solidly and surveyed the corridor, his eyes on Dove in a white lab coat.

“It turns out to be a Nen beast.”

Dove looked at the panther-shaped Black Cat and murmured softly.

Not a magical beast, but a Nen beast.

Seeing Black Cat, Dove prepared for battle, his body enveloped in surging Nen.

However, just as he released the Nen within him, he saw the Nen beast in the form of a black panther turn its head and run away decisively.

“...”

Watching the Nen beast disappear in a puff of smoke, Dove was left disheveled in the wind.
