Chapter 289: Nen is Indeed Fascinating

Shasha had already used one arrow, and Luo had attempted two attacks, concluding that they couldn't break through the shield. However, since the shield vanished on its own, it clearly had a duration.

Therefore, facing Bear's attack, which was full of openings, Luo didn't need to forcefully intercept it; he just needed to avoid the brunt of it and wait for the shield to disappear on its own.

Moreover, considering the initial effects of that woman's Nen arrow, it was clear that it wasn't meant for lethal damage but was a functional long-range attack, which necessitated addressing it first.

Luo had other plans, though.

Nen abilities usually come with limitations and drawbacks. For example, Shasha's Nen arrow, which hit its target without causing physical damage, was itself a disadvantage. Yet, it was unusually effective.

In the midst of battle, Luo keenly noticed this and hesitated to bypass Bear to confront Shasha directly.

"She only gave you a useful armor, not a sharp weapon."

Luo watched as Bear charged fiercely. After dodging several physical attacks in quick succession, Luo kept track of the time internally.

One second, two seconds, three seconds!

Crack!

The shield shattered with a sound.

Luo glanced sideways at Shasha standing at the building's entrance. Her next arrow, just in time, gave Bear's "addon" an extra three seconds, prompting Luo to retreat further, avoiding Bear's clingy assault.

The Nen arrow capable of creating a shield could be used without any interval, meaning as long as Shasha could continuously hit Bear, he would remain invincible.

In a Nen battle, if the enemy's level reaches a certain standard, and if there are multiple enemies, it's usually best if your side has multiple people as well.

The opposing Nen abilities and replicable attacks, as well as functional and supportive Nen, can often surpass individual capabilities with well-coordinated teamwork.

At the moment, Shasha's functional Nen, with a teammate's cooperation, maximized its potential, creating an invincible vanguard.

Facing this, there were usually two choices: avoid Bear and directly target Shasha, or draw out a prolonged battle until Shasha's Nen energy was depleted.

Luo was capable of both, but he chose a third option.

Teamwork could indeed form a formidable force, but individual capabilities were not without their limits.

Once again dodging Bear's clingy close-range attacks, Luo had no intention of counterattacking, instead letting Bear's "scars are a man's pride" become ineffective.

"One second, two seconds, three seconds!"

Luo multitasked, avoiding Bear's attacks while counting the time and keeping an eye on Shasha.

As the time reached three seconds and the shield shattered, Luo made a startling move. He disturbed the ground beneath Bear's feet, tipping him to one side, exposing himself to the path of the incoming Nen arrow.

At the building's entrance, Shasha, who had just shot an arrow, changed her expression immediately.

"Damn!"

This arrow was meant to renew Bear's shield, but if it hit Luo, it would be counterproductive. She hoped Luo would dodge the arrow or use his previous method to crush the Nen arrow.

However, while praying, Shasha considered another possibility—that Luo had noticed the weakness of her black and white Nen arrows and was exploiting it. If that was the case, it was very bad!

"A normal person, even if they noticed, wouldn't do that, right?"

With this thought, Shasha's view of the battlefield suddenly changed. She saw Luo still standing with his middle finger raised, but this time, he did not make the scissor gesture to catch the arrow but kept his fingers together, crossing them in the path of the incoming arrow.

Indeed, normally, even if one recognized the function of the black and white arrows, without absolute evidence, it would be difficult for someone to risk their body in battle. However, Luo chose the smallest price to pay—two fingers.

He faced the risk of injuring his two fingers as he casually received Shasha's arrow.

Since the arrow did not leave a wound on Bear and didn't cause him pain, it was evident that the Nen arrow lacked physical lethality.

Of course, it might also be because, in Shasha's perception, Bear was an ally, hence the effect. If the target were an enemy, the effect might differ due to different perceptions.

If so, such a defensively impressive Nen would likely have at least three limitations: one could not use it on oneself, a release limitation, and a Nen energy consumption level.

With these basic considerations, Luo was quite willing to give it a try.

Ssst!

The arrow pierced his middle finger.

At that moment, Luo's lips twitched slightly.

"Nen, this thing,

 is indeed very interesting."

He muttered internally as the arrow that pierced his middle finger did not cause him any substantial harm but equipped him with a three-second high-intensity shield.

As he had guessed, the effect of the Nen arrow was not limited to either side. This was the drawback of the Nen arrow.

Three seconds, although not enough to consider defensive tactics, was not sufficient to reach Shasha at the building's entrance. So, he would kill Bear in those three seconds.

When the Nen arrow hit Luo, the ground beneath him stirred, causing Bear, whose posture was destabilized by the tremor, to stabilize forcefully with a solid base and kick out with a leg infused with more than half his Nen power toward Luo, who was close by.

However, before his kick could take effect, Luo caught the protective enhancement effect sent by Shasha.

"Damn!"

Bear's heart skipped a beat, but he could no longer withdraw his move.

Luo turned to look at him, lifting his left hand covered only with a minimal amount of Nen, and easily caught Bear's kick, which had been charged with more than half his Nen power.

"This is the true usage of her Nen arrow."

While catching Bear's kick, Luo quickly extended his right hand and used a technique combining five different skills—*Ko*!

In an instant, Luo gathered all his Nen power in his right hand, and under Bear's furiously wide-eyed gaze, he pierced through his chest, heavily scarred from previous battles, and reached his heart.

The original plan was to extract Bear's heart, but with an additional target available, Luo changed his mind, opting to kill Bear outright.

After stabbing Bear to death with a palm strike, Luo released his left hand and dropped the not-yet-dead Bear at his feet, then turned to look at Shasha, standing at the building's entrance with a grave expression.

The true method of the black and white Nen arrow... this man, how terrifying!

Just through two or three observations, he managed to execute such defense and attack?

With this thought, a chill ran down Shasha's entire body.

From the moment Luo blocked Bear's kick with his left hand to the moment he raised his right hand and pierced Bear's chest, Shasha saw everything clearly.

He was clearly an enemy, yet he dared to risk using her Nen to make the most reasonable and efficient defensive and offensive moves!

That man used the defense provided by the black and white Nen arrow and executed *Ko* while still in defense, perfectly utilizing her Nen and synchronizing attack and defense!

Shasha felt the urge to retreat and decisively turned to flee.

She was frightened by Luo's display of capabilities, knowing she had no chance of winning.

If she knew that Luo had not used his full power to conserve Nen energy, who knows what she would have thought.

Seeing Shasha turn and flee into the building, Luo stepped forward, chasing after Shasha while flicking several Nen bullets towards her back.

But as a long-range functional support type, Shasha's dodging ability was beyond question. Without even looking back, and merely by sensing the Nen, she dodged Luo's Nen bullets, though it also slowed her down.
