Chapter 156: Plans

When Luo received a call from Buhara, it was already evening, and he was in his room practicing his Nen abilities.

Hearing Buhara mention that he had passed, Luo asked with a laugh, "How many candidates passed this year?"

"Sixteen, but I'm the only newcomer who passed," Buhara said with a tone of pride.

"Uh-huh, that's great," Luo commented nonchalantly.

Buhara didn't catch the sarcasm in Luo's voice. He paused and then said, "Dafei has been asking a lot about you."

"Who is that?"

Luo got up and walked to the window, looking out at the night view.

In a room somewhere.

Buhara was sitting on the sofa, facing two people across him; one was Dafei, and the other was none other than Chairman Netero.

The phone was set to maximum volume, and Dafei and Netero could hear everything Luo was saying clearly.

Hearing Luo ask who it was, Dafei's face darkened, while Netero continued to smile.

Buhara glanced at Dafei and introduced him in the simplest term, making Luo instantly understand who Dafei was.

"The examiner who came over for a free meal."

Hearing Buhara's straight-to-the-point introduction, Dafei twitched his mouth.

"Oh, that person." Luo immediately recalled the examiner who was relishing the roasted pigskin, likely an Enhancer, given how effortlessly he chewed the tough skin.

"What did he ask?" Luo inquired, curious why Dafei would want to know about him.

"Just about how we knew each other, our relationship, and about our time in the Amarlo Jungle. I told him everything," Buhara honestly replied, pausing before carefully asking, "Luo, are you going to be mad about this?"

"Not at all, it’s nothing serious," Luo replied, though his brows were slightly furrowed, wondering why Dafei took an interest in him.

Relieved by Luo’s response, Buhara let out a sigh of relief. He was now Dafei’s apprentice, and it was difficult for him to sidestep questions from his master, especially with Chairman Netero present.

Despite his simple demeanor, Buhara was not foolish. He could tell that Netero had come for Luo, and he had only just received his Hunter's license when Dafei came to offer to teach him Nen, likely because of Luo.

He was mistaken in that regard.

Netero was indeed there for Luo, but Dafei genuinely saw potential in him.

"By the way, I won't be able to come see you soon, as I'll be following Dafei in training," Buhara said, looking towards Chairman Netero, hesitating whether to inform Luo that Netero and Dafei were also listening to their conversation.

Noticing Buhara’s glance, Netero seemed to guess his thoughts and gave him a gentle smile.

It's hard to say it out loud!

That benevolent smile seemed to tell Buhara: It wouldn’t be nice to spill the beans.

"Did he approach you?" Luo asked.

"Yeah."

"Then follow him well in your training, learn everything you can, and then come and teach me."

"What? Teach you?" Buhara was flabbergasted.

Netero and Dafei also heard Luo’s words, and a hint of confusion crossed their eyes.

"My Nen skills are still half-baked; I'm not fully versed in the techniques. Since Dafei was chosen as an examiner, his skills must be pretty good," Luo explained, "Just focus on learning well, and it's fine to stay longer."

Luo didn’t know that Dafei and Netero were beside Buhara; otherwise, he wouldn't have said those things.

Buhara snapped back to reality, his face troubled, thinking that it was a good thing he hadn’t been frightened by Netero's smile earlier. Now it seemed he had accidentally put Luo in a tricky position.

"If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up. Keep up the good work," Luo said, preparing to end the call.

"Wait, there's something else!" Buhara hastily interjected as he heard Luo about to hang up.

Luo had just put down his phone, but hearing Buhara's words, he brought it back to his ear and asked, "What is it?"

At that moment, Buhara looked towards Chairman Netero, feeling very uncomfortable.

Before making the call, Netero had said to let him talk to Luo after they had caught up. But then Luo had said those words in front of Chairman Netero...

Netero stroked his beard and shook his head at Buhara

.

The meaning was clear: he wasn't planning to talk to Luo anymore.

Buhara was momentarily stunned, then quickly understood what Netero's shake of the head meant, which was actually the outcome he had hoped for.

"Oh, oh, it’s nothing," Buhara changed his tune.

Unaware of the details, Luo didn’t probe further, simply said a word, and then hung up the phone, continuing his Nen training that had been interrupted earlier.

Despite having shortcuts, he still maintained a regular training schedule every day. Though it was tedious and not as fast as the shortcuts, it was still better than nothing.

After hanging up, Buhara breathed a sigh of relief, feeling much more relaxed.

"Chairman." Dafei’s brows were knotted together.

"Hoho."

Netero chuckled a few times and casually said, "Just do your job."

"Ha..." Dafei gave a wry smile. He had been with the Hunter Association for over ten years and had mentored several students, but this was the first time he had encountered such a situation.

Ever since he met Luo, many firsts had been refreshed for him.

Despite having the raw strength to pass the test, he had chosen to opt out voluntarily. He had thought Luo was a Nen master, but it turned out he wanted a friend to learn properly from an examiner and then teach him.

What kind of situation was this?

He had thought that Luo, given his young age, must have been taught by some well-known Nen master.

"Gorilla."

Netero jumped off the sofa, patted Dafei on the shoulder, and chuckled, "Life should be full of surprises... That’s what makes it interesting."

With that, he walked towards the door, leaving a bewildered Dafei and Buhara behind, listening to the chairman’s seemingly disconnected words. Dafei even forgot to be upset about being called a gorilla again.

After leaving the room, Netero walked along the corridor, murmuring, "Still unpolished, but youth is good..."

Netero had specifically come to the last stage of the Hunter exam after finishing up some business, arriving just as the briefing session was ending.

However, after arriving at the venue, he hadn't seen the person he wanted to meet. This was why Buhara had called Luo while Dafei and Netero were nearby after receiving his license.

In any field, no one would refuse the fresh blood of a promising newcomer. In Netero’s view, Luo might be the next Ging, joining the Hunter exam as a newcomer and becoming a fresh blood not to be ignored.

Regrettably, Luo had dropped out of the test for some reason, but joining the Hunter Association was just a matter of obtaining a license.

Netero had wanted to reach out to Luo through Buhara, but it turned out that Luo might have been self-taught in Nen, which made things even more interesting.

In the moment Buhara hung up the phone, Netero had already made some plans.

Wanting to reach out and refine him clearly would take a lot of effort and time, and with his current status, it wasn’t easy to find that much time and energy.

First, he would keep track of Luo’s movements, then make further plans.

Of course, it didn’t necessarily have to be him in person; there were still suitable candidates available.

.....

At the same time, Illumi had returned to Kukuroo Mountain.

He had left Meteor Street intending to head straight back to Kukuroo Mountain, but he took a detour to complete a commission and was delayed until now to get home.

In the end, as long as the clothes he was bringing back for his mother were intact, it was fine.
