Chapter 149: Intent

After the gunman fell to the ground, unable to move, and Luo (罗) severed the nen bullet with his swing of the blade, Meteor Street (流星街) lost its chance.

Regrettably, the style of Meteor Street is exactly that of hitting the southern wall without looking back.

Whether it’s using aura to knock down most of the underlings, or cutting through a nen bullet with a rusty knife, there is no reason that would allow the elders to let Luo leave Meteor Street peacefully.

When Luo pointed his blade at them, the nen users accompanying the elders didn’t need an order to charge at Luo, eager to create an opportunity for their elders.

Third-tier nen users, who have only just touched the threshold and haven’t developed their own nen, can only use aura to accomplish what ordinary people cannot.

Any nen user who can skillfully utilize aura can overpower the strongest ordinary people. Thus, even third-tier nen users have their value.

However, when facing higher-level opponents, the value that appears in ordinary people becomes negligible.

Sanbica Norton (桑比卡·诺顿) knew when to do what; close combat was her weakness, and having completed her task, she turned and left without hesitation.

As Sanbica turned, Luo watched the twenty or so nen users rushing towards him, withdrew his long blade, and his lips curled up.

“This is the first time I've used a knife to chop someone.”

The meaningless muttering entered the ears of everyone present.

Under unclear circumstances, Luo suddenly swung his knife towards the empty space in front, performing a horizontal slash from basic sword techniques.

Hiss...!

A crescent-shaped sword aura detached from the blade and slashed towards the approaching nen users.

Invisibly, nen users who stepped into the twenty-meter range were too slow to react and were cleaved in two by the sword aura.

The area near the elbow, close to the chest, was where the sword aura rampaged through.

Thus, not only were the bodies split in two, but the arms below the elbows were also severed.

“Eh?”

The nen users stopped their forward momentum, their faces showing confusion.

Their upper bodies and arms fell to the ground, while their lower bodies bizarrely remained upright, not falling.

There was no blood, nor were there screams of pain, because they felt no pain.

Time seemed to freeze, and the scene was eerily silent.

The bewildered expressions on the fallen nen users' faces seemed to mock the carnage around them.

In one encounter, the remaining combat power had all fallen, and Luo had done so with just one slash.

Saber (沙伯) and Kite (基特) stood frozen in place, intending to find an opportune moment to attack Luo while their underlings surrounded him, but just as they took a step forward, their underlings were all cleaved in two.

“An emitter-type nen...?”

From the rooftop, Marshal (马歇尔) clearly saw and shivered involuntarily because he was an emitter, he could understand the terrifying nature of that aura slash.

When the sword aura slashed horizontally, not only Marshal, but also Saber and Kite saw it—it was a crescent-shaped nen bullet, not small in length, and from the impact it caused, it was evident that its characteristic was an unparalleled sharpness, different from Marshal's nen bullet impact traits.

The elders could see the sword aura because their training was profound, emitting sufficient aura from within their bodies. Even without focusing it deliberately in their eyes, they could see the clear aura.

But it was different for the underlings; their training wasn’t profound enough. They needed to divert some of their aura to their eyes specifically to see the aura slash shooting from the blade.

As they charged at Luo, they distributed most of their aura in their limbs, so when Luo slashed, they couldn’t see the aura slash, but they could feel its presence. However, they couldn’t respond in time.

Feeling its presence is one thing; avoiding it is another. Their defeat was due to their inadequate training and their insensitivity to aura.

Luo’s sword aura could easily break through their defenses, but it had its drawbacks—it had a very noticeable presence and was a direct attack, which left no room for trickery.

A nen user with a certain level of skill didn’t need to see the sword aura; they could dodge it based on their sensitivity to aura.

“What is his ability?” Saber’s face broke out in a cold sweat. That sword aura should be an emitter-type ability, but what about the abilities that stopped bullets and defended against grenades? And how could the person cut by the blade still be alive without bleeding?

Kite’s gaze was cold. He didn’t think much, merely whispered lowly: “Cover me.”

No need for words, both understood each other’s intentions and knew how to cooperate.

If they weren’t willing to give up, then they’d fight to the death.

Hearing Kite’s whisper, Saber calmed his emotions and clenched his teeth as he moved toward Luo.

He was an enhancer, his nen training suited for charging ahead. If Luo were there, he would have been better coordinated.

If one were to describe Saber's nen as a creature, it would be a turtle.

An ever-strengthening shield, this was his nen, known for its defensive capabilities, but its offensive power was too weak. Only with paired destruction abilities could he truly exhibit his power.

All Saber needed was to get close to the enemy.

Using the shield to protect himself and using self-destruction as a means to damage the enemy, he could become a man-made bomb with not a few uses, colloquially speaking, an indestructible inflatable doll.

However, Luo had already defeated those coordinating with him, naturally, he couldn't exert his power alone. At this moment, what he could do was to draw Luo's attention in coordination with Kite’s nen, mainly to distract Luo.

Shadow Play... this was Kite’s nen.

The terrifying aspect of the Manipulator type lies in the fulfillment of conditions; once the conditions are met, it becomes a killing move.

Saber had already witnessed Luo's strength, but it wasn't without opportunities; his shield and Marshal’s long-range attacks were not enough to win over Luo, but there was still Kite’s Shadow Play.

The key to victory lay in assisting Kite to meet the conditions of Shadow Play. If that were achieved, they were sure to win the battle.

Luo was unaware of the elders' plans. Seeing Saber charging fearlessly, he casually swung a slash at Saber through the air.

The sword aura shot out, heading straight for Saber.

“You can’t dodge, only by enduring all the damage with resolve can you bring out the power of the shield!”

Being able to clearly see Luo’s incoming sword aura meant it was avoidable, but the very purpose of the ever-strengthening shield was to withstand damage. Any thought of retreat would make it lose its meaning.

He aimed to be like a cockroach that couldn’t be killed, specifically to attract Luo’s attention.

“Can’t dodge! Can’t dodge!”

His mind raced with these self-talks, and then, the delayed screams of his subordinates who were sliced in half by the sword aura, sounded like souls returning to their bodies, issuing a desperate cry at that moment.

Saber’s eyes flickered with a hint of fear, and he abruptly stopped his charge, leaning his upper body back to avoid the sword aura.

He had dodged, yet he couldn't feel happy about it.

The sight of his subordinates easily being cut in half by that sword aura had robbed him of any absolute confidence.

Seeing Saber dodge the sword aura, Luo’s expression remained calm as he prepared to slash again.

Nen abilities of nen users are strange and varied; if an enemy can be defeated without getting close, there’s no need to engage in close combat.

From Saber’s direct charge, it seemed that his nen might be of the close-combat type, so using the sword aura for mid to long-range attacks was sufficient.

Just as Luo was about to make his move, Marshal’s three nen bullets attacked again.

Three shots were the maximum he could emit in one attack.

He aimed not at Luo but at the ground in front of Luo.

However, as if foreseeing his intent, Luo stepped forward two paces and swung his blade, severing the three nen bullets.

In that instant, Marshal’s expression turned extremely ugly.

It was not just the severing of the nen bullets, but also the weakening of the nen bullets’ power!

He saw clearly that the nen bullets, once split in two, had their power diminished, not possessing the original force of his nen bullets.

The key wasn’t that the nen bullets were severed again, but that he had clearly aimed at the ground, intending to kick up dust to obscure Luo’s vision, thus creating favorable conditions for Saber and Kite.

However, Luo had deliberately stepped forward to sever the nen bullets, reducing their power and preventing the dust from rising.
