Chapter 75: Racing Against Time

Death, for Barney, was a common occurrence, whether it was the death of others or the dangerous situations he had faced himself, all were closely related to death.

Martin was killed right before his eyes, and Kenda hadn't arrived yet. Now, he could die at any moment.

He had been through such scenes countless times to reach where he was today.

After roaring out loud, Barney pulled out his gun and fired.

"Bang bang!"

The sound of gunfire erupted.

Kuli immediately lifted Martin's corpse to block the incoming bullets, while Wogret hid behind Kuli.

As Barney retreated quickly, emptying his magazine, he yelled into the phone, "Take Elly and leave," before discarding the phone, swiftly changing the magazine, and continuing to shoot to block Kuli, creating distance between them.

Kenda, who took a detour to arrive, heard the gunfire and rushed into the alley, so the command to "take Elly and leave" came a step too late.

The alley was straight, and Barney had almost reached the other end, so when Kenda and the others took a detour into the alley, they saw Barney's figure.

It wasn’t exactly disobeying Barney’s order, just that the timing was slightly off.

"Click click."

The gun was empty again, without any magazine left.

Barney backed away, seeing Kenda and the others approaching, his expression changing uncertainly. He hadn’t expected Kenda to be so close.

"Why are you still here?" he glanced at Elly, lying on Luo's chest, and accused Kenda.

Kenda was speechless, unsure of how to respond.

Seeing Barney had run out of bullets, Kuli threw away Martin's corpse. The unexpected guests suited his purpose, saving him the time to search for them.

The street gunfight had been going on for a while. They needed to kill Barney and his people and take the artifacts before the police completely sealed off the area.

"I will cherish this opportunity. If there was more time, I would make you experience a fate worse than death," Kuli said coldly, staring at Luo.

Luo silently put down Elly, letting her go to Kenda's side, then took a few steps forward.

Running away was pointless. The issue needed to be resolved here fundamentally.

According to the plan he had made on his way here, Kuli had to die because there was a grudge between them.

Meanwhile, a boy with spiky hair and a man with a horse-like face, having heard the gunfire, were heading in this direction.

They were unaware of Kuli's plan, knowing only that their mission was to protect Barney. The sound of gunfire didn't deter them.

As they spotted a few vague shadows ahead, a small shadow swiftly passed by them from behind, stopping in front of them.

"Eh?"

The man with the horse-like face and the boy with spiky hair slowed down, surprised at the sudden appearance of the child's silhouette in front of them, feeling their strength rapidly draining.

They looked down in confusion, only to see blood slowly spreading across their chests. Before they could understand what had happened, everything went dark, and they collapsed to the ground.

The child was Illumi, holding a still-beating heart in each of his slender hands.

"Still ended up seeing blood."

Illumi, somewhat disappointed, discarded the hearts. Despite deliberate practice, he couldn't achieve the bloodless heart-removal technique of his father.

"It's time to wrap this up. It'll be easier with fewer people. If you two hadn't come, you wouldn't have had to die," Illumi said, his gaze coldly sweeping over the corpses of the man with the horse-like face and the boy with spiky hair.

The Zoldyck family had a standard operating procedure: work for money without unnecessary killing. However, with Illumi, there was a bit of a change.

Turning his gaze from the bodies, Illumi looked towards the deep alley, barely making out the lights of another street and a few vague shadows.

With his specially trained vision, he could clearly see the situation in the alley.

Illumi tilted his head in thought, then with a few leaps, jumped onto the rooftop, heading towards Luo and the others.

....

Seeing Luo step forward, an idea immediately came to Barney's mind: use Luo to block Kuli and Wogret, allowing them to escape.

Choosing Luo as Elly's bodyguard wasn't a hasty decision.

Given the current situation, he felt fortunate for that decision.

Without hesitation, Barney said, "Let Luo block them, we'll go first."

As soon as he finished speaking, without caring about Elly and Kenda's reactions, he turned, picked up Elly, and ran towards the alley's exit.

Luo didn't even look back.

He stood there not just to complete a bodyguard mission. With Elly being taken away, under the current circumstances, was the best outcome.

Kenda, who had suffered a not-so-serious internal injury and a fractured right arm that rendered him immobile, stood still as Barney carried Elly away.

"Kenda, what are you waiting for? Let's go!" Barney turned back to see Kenda standing motionless.

"Master, Miss, having one more person stay behind can buy more time," Kenda made his decision.

At that moment, Elly bit Barney's arm hard, causing him pain and his grip to loosen.

Elly took the opportunity to break free, jumping down and stubbornly said, "I'm not going."

Barney's face darkened, about to explode in anger, when Luo's calm voice timely intervened, "Elly, staying here will only get in the way. Listen, follow your dad and leave."

Hearing this, Elly's cheeks puffed up in anger, unsure if it was because she tended to listen to Luo, or because she knew she couldn't act rashly at the moment. After a pause, she decisively ran towards the alley's exit, saying, "Barney, hurry up and follow."

"..."

Barney's eyelids twitched slightly. If it weren't for the inopportune timing, he would have insisted that Elly understand her place.

The two figures, one big and one small, headed towards the alley's exit.

"Wogret."

Seeing Barney and Elly run off, Kuli didn't care. He called out Wogret's name and then charged directly at Luo.

He intended to kill Luo right there, while Wogret would handle Barney and Elly.

As Kuli made his move, Wogret did as well, their roles clearly defined.

Aura surged around Luo's body, and faint white light appeared on his hands as he faced Kuli's charge.

When Luo and Kuli engaged in close combat, Wogret bypassed them, moving along the side of the alley, casually picking up a trash can.

At that moment, Kenda, holding a gun in his left hand, decisively fired at Wogret. The bullet left the chamber, aimed at Wogret.

Wogret, having seen the gun in Kenda's hand beforehand, was prepared. He lifted the trash can, forcefully hurling it at Kenda while dodging the bullets.

The metal trash can flew through the air, colliding with the bullets before smashing into Kenda, who, seeing it coming, retreated while trying to reload with one hand. However, the fracture in his right hand greatly affected him.

Efficiently using the trash can to block the bullets, Wogret still suffered grazes from two bullets on his leg but managed to get close to Kenda, who couldn't reload in time due to his immobile right hand.

Upon closing the distance, Wogret gave a cold smile and kicked towards Kenda, who, taken aback, raised his left arm in defense.

"Boom!"

Kenda let out a low cry of pain as the powerful kick sent him flying into the wall on the left, crashing through the wall into the house inside, his life or death unknown.

After sending Kenda flying, Wogret did not slow down and continued chasing Barney and Elly.

Luo and Kuli had only exchanged a few blows before Kenda was quickly taken down by Wogret.

Hearing Kenda's cry of pain, Luo's expression darkened. Even though Kenda was injured, he had hoped Kenda could last longer. Now, Elly was in danger.

"We need to finish Kuli quickly."

Luo's hands moved together, stripping away the aura from Kuli's hands during their exchange.

As his aura was torn away, Kuli reacted swiftly, retreating with a shocked expression.

"I don't know where your confidence comes from. If I were you, I'd have my companion stop chasing and come help me."

Regret flashed in Luo's eyes as he spoke, charging at Kuli.

If Kuli's reaction had been even slightly slower, Luo could have separated Kuli's arms, ending the battle immediately.

The power of God's Hand was gradually becoming evident.

Kuli's confidence began to crumble when one-tenth of his aura was stripped away.

The bold words he had laid down were slapped back in his face as he was forced to retreat by Luo.
