Chapter 74: Mantis X Oriole X Hunter

This wasn't a situation of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Finding a balance between getting what the Elders wanted and ensuring Elly's safety only required making good use of the power of God's Hand...

Luo came up with a plan, a plan that utilized the ability of God's Hand.

First things first, it was essential to meet up with Barney and the others.

Having made up his mind, Luo felt it was necessary to find Kenda as quickly as possible, but there was something that needed to be resolved before he left.

He looked towards an anxious Kenda and asked, "Kenda, do you have any money on you?"

Kenda was immediately confused, not understanding why Luo was asking about money at this time, but he honestly replied, "I do."

"Good, give it all to me." Luo extended his hand, paused for a moment, and then added, "You don't need to give me all of it, keep a little on you."

Elly, while wiping the rain-soaked area with a towel, looked at Luo with the same confusion as Kenda.

Was this a demand for compensation?

The thought crossed Kenda's mind, considering they still relied on Luo, so he didn't hesitate to take out all the money he had.

"Is this all of it?" Luo looked at the thick stack of bills in Kenda's hand.

Kenda nodded, "Yes."

Luo stepped forward, took most of the bills from Kenda's hand, leaving him with a little.

"Wait here for a moment, I'll be right back."

Without further explanation, Luo took the money and squeezed through another circular hole in the wall.

At that moment, with the weak light from outside falling in, Kenda noticed two smoothly cut circular holes in the living room's wall. The one he entered through led to the alleyway, while the other led to a different location.

He glanced at the hole near the door and the round stone lying on the ground, filled with confusion about what Luo intended to do.

Elly, tilting her head slightly, thought for a moment, then seemed to understand.

Two minutes later.

Luo returned through the hole, the stack of thick bills now reduced to just a few, but they were of the highest denomination, ten thousand each, not a small amount.

Outside the house, the density of gunfire had noticeably decreased, yet it hadn't stopped entirely. From the frequency of the gunshots, it could only be roughly estimated that many had died, but it was unclear who had the upper hand.

Upon returning to the living room, Luo placed the remaining bills on the table.

After leaving the alley with Elly, he used the ability of God's Hand to cut through the wall directly, creating a path on the opposite side of the street.

He caused considerable damage to many houses along the way, finally arriving at this house's living room. Then, based on the aura fluctuations of the bearded man and the man with a missing ear, he acted in time to save Kenda.

Though he could use his abilities to restore the houses, it wasn't appropriate to make such a wasteful gesture of aura at this moment. Fortunately, Kenda had money, which could somewhat compensate the homeowners.

Giving too little was unavoidable, but giving too much was considered compensation for mental distress.

"Do you know Barney's location?" After placing the money down, Luo looked at Kenda, no longer referring to Barney as "boss" but by his first name, indicating a change in attitude.

Seeing Luo place the money on the table, Kenda's expression briefly revealed his understanding, turning strange for a moment.

To compensate was to waste precious two minutes.

Seeing her guess confirmed, Elly showed a cute smile.

"Our current location is on the left side of the street, and the elders are in an alley on the right side, only ten meters away in a straight line. But since the outcome of the street gunfire is still undecided, we have to take a detour," Kenda said with a suppressed strange feeling.

"Then we'll take a detour," Luo agreed without further thought. After all, bullets do not discriminate, and Elly's safety had to be considered.

As soon as he finished speaking, Luo picked up Elly in a princess carry.

Elly blushed slightly from being picked up so suddenly by Luo, though it was not very noticeable under the weak light and quickly faded.

"I'll lead the way."

Kenda glanced at Elly in Luo's arms. Since his right arm was immobile, he let Luo continue to carry Elly.

The trio decided to take a detour to avoid the gunfire on the main street and reach the alley on the right side to meet up with Barney.

At this time, the intense gunfire was nearing its end. Many civilians were affected, and a significant number of assassins and Barney's subordinates had died.

Barney had only brought about twenty subordinates with him to Yorknew, valuing quality over quantity. Thus, despite facing a multitude of assassins, they hadn't been decisively defeated but managed to tie down several times their number of enemies.

The situation for the awkward-faced man and the chestnut-haired one was somewhat embarrassing. Although they managed to kill a few assassins by employing clever tactics, their contributions were negligible compared to Barney's subordinates. This wasn't their fault, given they were not accustomed to using guns.

Realizing their presence was of little use as the intensity of the gunfight visibly decreased, they decisively ran to the alley on the right side, intending to regroup with Barney.

Deep in the right-side alleyway.

Despite the continuing heavy rain, it failed to wash away the scent of blood.

On the waterlogged ground lay two bodies, next to them stood a strong man with a missing arm—Martin.

The bodies were those of the Hyena Brothers, relatively well-known assassins in the underworld. Individually, their strength was average, but their excellent teamwork made them formidable opponents.

After a fierce battle, Martin managed to kill them both at the cost of an arm.

His right arm had been severed, significantly reducing his combat effectiveness.

Martin used his left hand and teeth to tie a cloth around the stump. The injury and blood loss made his face much paler.

It was only after the fight concluded that Barney approached Martin, his brow deeply furrowed, and asked in a grave tone, "Can you hold on?"

"I can, but we must leave here immediately," Martin replied.

"Let's go." Barney's expression was grim as he took out his phone and walked towards the other end of the alley, intending to check on Elly's safety and location.

Martin followed silently, always alert to their surroundings.

Suddenly, the sky, filled with dark clouds, was split by a deafening peal of thunder, and a bright flash of lightning tore through the night, illuminating several figures hiding in the dark.

On the roof of a building in the alleyway, a pair of cold, merciless eyes watched from the shadows.

Illumi did not bother to conceal himself, standing on the edge of the rooftop. However, he had eliminated his presence, thus remaining undetected by anyone, whether it be the mantis or the oriole.

Then, without warning, Martin's knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground, a look of shock on his face.

Barney had just managed to dial a number when he heard the sound and turned to see Martin kneeling, his face changing instantly.

"The claws of the Hyena Brothers are poisoned," Martin managed to say, his features slightly distorted with pain.

Hearing this, Barney gritted his teeth and walked over to Martin, preparing to help him up so they could leave together.

"Boss, go ahead. I'll catch up in a bit," Martin said, looking up earnestly, stopping Barney in his tracks.

Faced with Martin's expression, Barney fell silent.

Then, Kenda's voice came through the phone, "Boss, the lady is safe. We're on our way to you."

Barney took a deep breath, suppressing the rage boiling inside him, and brought the phone to his ear, ready to respond to Kenda when...

Suddenly, a hand pierced through Martin's chest, the blood-stained palm coming into Barney's view.

Martin's body jerked, and he slowly looked down at the hand protruding from his chest. As he tried to turn to see who it was, his head drooped lifelessly, his breath gone.

This sudden turn of events froze Barney in place, the words he was about to speak stuck in his throat.

The one who had killed Martin was Kuli.

He withdrew his hand, coldly looking at Barney, with Wogret standing beside him.

"It's you..." Barney roared in anger.

The release of his rage was due to the blatant violation of the closely maintained cooperation between the mafia and Meteor Street.

Meanwhile, Kenda, sensing something was wrong through the phone, felt a jolt in his heart. They were already close to Barney's location, and the awkward-faced man and chestnut-haired one were also approaching.
