Thanks for the feedback on last week's service release. Some regression errors were quickly identified by the community and appropiate patches have been applied:
- Double Dragon 2 music stops
- Pop sounds in CPS1
- Default setting for coin input fails in Super Hang-On (MiSTer)
- Street Fighter MCU versions crash
Support for RetroTink 4K
Following user's request, I have updated the MiSTer files to the latest version, which should support RetroTink 4K. I do not have that device and this is not high priority to me. But, if you find some problem with it and you think the core can be blamed for it, report it in this GitHub issue.
Konami's Voice Filters
Konami's board from the first half of the 80's had software controlled audio filters. These were quite crude, just turning a low-pass filter on or off. They could be used to give a different accent to the sound or, more importantly, as anti-aliasing filters for digitised speech. The games do operate the filters during gameplay but as far as I can see, emulators have been ignoring this feature.
We looked a bit into this a while ago but did not implement it. This week a user argued that Hyper Sports voices sounded terrible. I agreed but they were as bad as in MAME and I had little faith in the filters having an effect.
I, nonetheless, gave the filters a chance and made a crude implementation without trying to match the exact filter shape. The effect was clearly audible! I have enabled them in some of the Konami games already, starting with Hyper Sports and Super Basketball. We plan to refine the implementation and support them in all Konami games.
Body Slam and Quartet
SEGA's System 16A games using a i8751 MCU had never fully worked in JTS16 core. We finally got down to it this week and brought the remaining games to working status. Check out Body Slam and Quartet in your main folder!
JTS16 core also got a fix for background problems in SDI stage 2.
JTALIENS
After reviewing the backlog of Konami titles, I decided that the JTALIENS core will not receive more games. There will be one update to JTALIENS in the future, when we change the implementation of one of the custom chips to follow Furrtek's research on it.
But I'd rather not hold the core as a beta for that update and as of today JTALIENS is promoted to public.
Coming up
Parodius da! is currently booting up in the JTSIMSON core, but not playable yet. It will still take one to two weeks to have it fully implemented.
