Hey there folks! I know it's only been a couple days, but a fuckton of work has been done on the orc heist game. One of the benefits of me being the only person working on it is that there's a lot less things to slow it down.


I'm gonna go over all the things that have been done in a list. Warning for folks, this is a long update today!


1. UI coding for background elements is complete


This was the easy part, since it uses a modified version of existing code. This allows different locations to have different background colors, different text size and color, and even different fonts, though that last one I probably won't be taking advantage of, sounds annoying.

2. In addition to basic screen coding, I programmed the game to check the player's state for different available actions. All that's left for the basic screen is drawing and coding the buttons.

The game's screen will show a basic map of the area, a simple environmental picture, buttons to choose where to go or check your inventory, and your current status. Though the game doesn't have any combat, it does have ailments that can make your quest to plunder the orc king's booty a little harder.


Normal: No issues, your character is perfectly fine, for now.

Horny: Maybe you saw one of the more handsome members of orc royalty, or accidentally drank a love potion. Maybe you stumbled onto an orc bar gloryhole! No matter how it happened, your character can't stop thinking about sex and it's fucking with his ability to think straight. Actions that require complex thinking are impossible when like this.

Cursed: The result of some evil magic, or poisoned traps, or encountering one too many ghosts, being cursed makes your character weak and unable to do anything that requires a lot of physical strength.

Drunk: Perhaps you had to drink the captain of the guard under the table for some information. You could have taken a sip of dwarven wine at one of the castle's famous parties and got knocked on your ass. Hell, maybe you just wanted to get plastered today. Whatever the case, being drunk is like being both cursed and horny, keeping you from doing anything that requires a lot of strength or brainpower, but it wears off on its own, unlike those two.

Having any of these won't keep you from finishing the game, but it will make some paths impossible to take.

Originally I was going to make the icons for each status text like this, giving each one a different art style, the drunk text being like a paint splatter against the wall:

But since a lot of you guys don't speak English as your first language, and it's kinda impossible to translate an image directly with your browser as far as I'm aware, I thought pictures would be a better choice.


3. The game's results screen is coded, and the game keeps track of various actions as you go.

More things could be added later, but for now, these are the things the game keeps track of to determine your ranking.

Treasure: How much gold and jewels you still. You can use some of this to bribe guards or buy things, but your ultimate goal is to steal as much riches as possible.

Orcs Banged: Your secondary goal is to fuck as many orcs as possible. Orcs are a very open people, so this shouldn't be too hard. ;P

Spells Used: As a panic button, you are given multiple one time use spells to get out of sticky situations. The game tracks how many of these you use, but you currently aren't penalized for using them.

Time Taken: From the moment you begin the game, every click you make is a "turn". This keeps track of how many turns it took for you to get the orc king's treasure. Right now it says 2 because it took me two turns to go through debug to get to the results screen. :V

Ranking: Less of a grade, and more of what kind of player you were during this run. Did you go really fast? Did you solve a lot of problems by sleeping? Did you end your quest with an absurd amount of money? These all influence the bardic ranking you get.

I'm currently considering giving each category a grade E through A, but I'm on the fence, I don't wanna tell you how to play your porn games.

As a side note, I'm gonna post the results screen music for ya.

I'm hoping to have all the buttons drawn and coded, as well as the inventory screen and a basic path to the end done by Tuesday. It sounds like a lot, but work has been flying by for this, so I'm optimistic! :D
