104 - Sketch of the Month - Top #2 (3) - FemGhost (Patreon)
Content
The next sketch I finished after my Wisp and Valkyr piece was featuring a female version of Ghost. During the making process, the whole idea was changing more than once and it's "story" was forming out slowly as the sketch was filled with more and more details.
This character was nominated in my first Sketch of the Month poll, receiving 3 votes, making it step onto the 2nd place (next to Black Spidey) out of the 5 characters.
Just to make it look different than all the previous femGhost character's I've seen on the internet, I figured I'd draw her with a tank top, or something like that, definitely not with a bikini top. That was the basic idea for what to do with this project. Later I was thinking I'd make her holding a mug or something, then started searching for pose references for ideas what to make exactly.
- Then I've found a really weird irl photo, (well, weird for me); It showed a woman with some fat butt and thick thighs, and the butt was looking really strange, unusual for me. Before getting into work I tried to see if this was a real looking thing, meaning having the body twisted like that and still showing both butt cheeks in the photo. Luckily, I was not blessed by such big buttocks, but to my surprise, this pose was indeed very real (I checked myself in the mirror doing a similar twisting pose). It's just not a pose that is usually showed around, and that's why it's strange for me, I guess. Interesting how much you can learn in the process of making something.
Said reference pic I randomly found at somewhere on the internet:
- So while sketching, I changed my mind and didn't want to bother with the hand and a mug, so I made it like she was holding a door. Then I started to imagine the situation of this pic: FemGhost got caught opening some secret snack stash during the night, and that's why she's looking back, that's why the pic looks dark and has some light working around the figure. I was considering making the character look angry for being caught, or threatening the viewer with some text like "you didn't see nothing" or just simply a question mark like "what? I need some snack for the night." but idk, I left out this part, hopfeully the picture can speak for itself without written words on it... hopefully..
- At first I was sketching a belt under her breasts, but then went without it. I was also thinking giving her a stocking (after being inspired by a photo), but didn't do that either. I was considering making her only wearing a top and no underwear, so her being grumpy would fit the scene more(?). But then that panty happened with the skull pattern, and of course, that had to stay right there. xd
- While working on the shelves and the snacks... damn... I was getting more and more hungry and craving for some too.. but I didn't have anything to snack on.. So I guess it's true some artist hide their wishes into their art, hah. Speaking of that part, I hid 2 amongus figures between the boxes and snacks, that idea came totally randomly, I was not planning to add such thing at all to my arts ever, but guess it happened anyway. xd
- I tried to make her look good, her figure, head and eyes. But idk, I'm not quite satisfied with it (especially the figure... I mean, I still don't like how that butt looks like this way, it's too weird for me xd). I was trying to check some fanarts of this character to get an idea how to draw her, but I guess I'll try to do it better next time if I'll be drawing such face again (female or male).
Last 3 pictures are just darker versions of the previous 3. Haven't decided which one should be the published version yet.
Overall I'm not that dissatisfied with this, it's a mixture; it has things I like and dislike, so I guess it's in harmony, ha.
Idk if I should add any speech-text to her btw, I'll leave it like this if nothing happens. Also and again, haven't decided if I should stick to the lighter or darker version as the final pic for this.
EDIT: Alright, after 1 day I'm more satisfied with how this looks. xd
