There probably won't be a Patreon exclusive this week... but you are getting this week's video early, as I'm finally getting ahead with the editing (which should mean I'll get the Patreon tiers upgraded soon)! Somehow, Gannon and I stay mostly on-topic for this look at the Talking View-Master, and other assorted stereoscopic novelties. I rather enjoyed it.

Also... I just wanted to say a quick thank you for sticking by me for another month. I've managed to make it through the year okay, but as we're heading into the winter, and there's no real sign of my job really ramping up again anytime soon, and stuff I'd been banking on for 2020 either getting bumped into "sometime" in 2021, or cancelled altogether, I'm starting to get a bit antsy about money.

Having Patreon coming in at this time is a real life-saver, so thank you from both Sanja and I, and the kids. You're quite literally helping to keep a roof over our heads at the minute.

And because of that, because of you, I can keep making stuff, such as our new podcast (latest ep here: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/between-you-and-me-a-podcast-about-marillion/id1530960617?i=1000493687833) and - of course - everything we do on the channel... which I hope will continue to do surprising things, and evolve, even during this time.

Talking of, here's that new video, kids!

Looking forward to watching, can't remember off hand what the tiers of are changing to but I don't think I'll be able to up right now.

It's nothing to worry about! There was a post a few weeks back. Just adding some extra ones, and clarifying the rest.

Same ickle records that came with my action man that talked using its backpack.

The Parallel Viewmaster

3D is sort of my obsession, so until an actual expert writes in... The World War 2 viewmaster reels were used to train observers to identify different aircraft and ship types(I think some armored vehicles and tanks were photographed too). I have a dozen of the aircraft ones; each reel is devoted to a single vehicle model, with photos taken from different angles and distances(from anywhere between 150-600 yards). There were probably over a hundred reels for aircraft alone(each reel was numbered, and the highest one I have is #78), and the reels were organized by country of manufacture for the vehicle. Also, as 3D is my thing and I'm pretty good at seeing perspective, I also have to say that I really can't tell if the photos are 3D or not. 150 yards distance is pretty far to get any 3D effect at all with a regular 3D camera, and from my limited experience, there is no way to get a good 3D photo of a single plane at that distance with no backgrounds(they were photographed flying in clear or very slightly cloudy weather). It is possible that they even just copied the same 2D photo for both slides to make the trainees feel like they were looking through binoculars. Now, please forward this message to the Mr Biffo of last month, when the information might have been useful to him.
