Here's an excellent exercise to develop your neoclassical chord vocabulary across the neck. I'm using the primary chords in the key of A minor, which are Am-Dm-E. 

I've voiced the each chord using the closed position strategy, or grabbing the closest notes available to create smooth voice leading. Let's make Bach would proud muhahaha....

Use these ideas as a starting point when composing in the neoclassical style.

 I always think of Eric Johnson and his chordal style when I play these shapes. Sounds more pianistic.
