In this post you'll learn everything you need to know about the Phrygian mode. Very common in progressive metal music.

-Scale

-Primary Chords

-Chord Inversion Workout

The Phrygian mode is a brooding and dark sound associated with metal and flamenco music, amongst other genres. Megadeth's "Symphony Of Destruction" is a good example of the sound.

Try playing the scale with a root note pedal tone ringing in the background. This provides context for the sonic qualities of the mode.
