Housekeeping

I haven't shared the situation with my mother for months, and if you're new, she's in California, 93, and has been in and out of the hospital since late May, and June was wretched with my daughter, son, and mother in the hospital in three different states at the same time for different reasons. I had a pre-planned business trip to San Francisco next week, and mom has taken a turn for the worse. To the point that Dr. Mrs. Malcontent is joining me. At the most, bullet reports are on Monday and Tuesday. Thank you for your understanding.

What's Happening

What's the big story? It's temporary - for now - but United States Lend-Lease and additional military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine has ended, and Slovakia elected a pro-Russia isolationist prime minister.

What's the second story? Russia has shifted its tactics with drone and missile strikes, and Ukraine's capability to defend its airspace is fading.

Those maggots may be saving his life. They can be used to clean wounds

TheMalcontent

A slippery slope of providing medical diagnosis via video, so let me take off my journalist hat and put on my just-me hat. Further, none of this is the official position of Malcontent News, the board, or its analyst team. Strictly my opinion with assistance. Dr. Mrs. Malcontent, a real doctor, looked at it. I also did search and rescue for eight years and was trained (admittedly a lifetime ago) in outdoor medicine. It is impossible to make a full diagnosis on video alone. Our first thought on the hand wound was the maggots were being used to clean it out. The last wound on the leg, the deepest and worst one, shows significant signs of spreading deep infection. It is red and inflamed, and there are red bands starting to radiate from the wound site. That is not a good sign. Maggots are still used in a clinical setting in modern medicine, and there are sterilized "medical maggots" and they're very good at debridement of certain wounds, including with ongoing infection. But we kept going back to that third wound, and all the red radiating from it.
