Matt

Looking forward to watching this with your reaction, the dragon scene cracks me up so much 🤣

I initially thought nothing of it when the first trailer was released, but I was really surprised by how fun this movie was. Excited to watch this again tonight. You should check out Baldur's Gate 3 if you want to dip your toes in a D&D game.

Derder

Yay more things!

Ok you absolutely need to watch the Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon. It's animated in a very similar style to invincible, and just as adult themed. But it was based on Critical Role's first D&D campaign. And it's amazing.

TJ Bigelow

Oh, this gonna be a dope reaction, lol.

Tall Geeky & Cool

About the 47-minute mark: That's not Bradley Cooper, that's Mini Cooper...I'll show myself out now

Nick Luce

One of my favorite animated shows, I am a bit biased though as I'm a huge critical role fan.

Baldurs gate 3 is set on the sword coast, the same region this movie takes place in, in fact, it's very likely these stories happen around the same time, if not simultaneously. DND has a main history and timeline set in the continent of faerun (though many chose to make their own setting)

Jacob King

Didn’t care for this movie (though I am aware it’s got a lot to do with my lack of familiarity with D&D) but Game Night from the same directors is easily in my top five comedies of all time.

Okay, V, you're gonna love this. You mention how you like how each member of the party compliments the group. D&D has been around a long time, but D&D wouldn't exist without Lord of the Rings. LotR was the first story that brought together a bunch folktales and legends into one universe. For example, there are stories of elves, trolls, goblins, fairies, witches, etc; but never stories of them all living in the same world together. Additionally, each member of the Fellowship also have a different talent. D&D took this concept and created the idea of the group of misfits that make the perfect team by having different jobs (classes) and races; and they made a game out of it. D&D is the main game of roleplaying but there are a handful of other roleplaying universes. D&D is commonly played in the world of Dragonlance. Neverwinter, Baulder's Gate, Waterdeep, Icewind Dale, Sword Coast, Underdark; all of these are locations used in most D&D stories and games. Other semi-well known universes are Dark Sun, Ravenloft, and Exandria. Lesser known are like Shadowrun and Vampire the Masquerade. Even Fallout and Cyberpunk exists because of the groundwork D&D and LotR created. Now, get this, most stories/movies/tv shows (especially successful ones) involving a group of misfits design their characters around D&D classes/races. Cleric/priest/healer/heart of the group. Barbarian/the muscle/lovable oaf/brute usually dim-witted. Bard/performer/the musician/the clever liar/silver tongued/the talker/the cheerleader/the spy/the con man. Magic users have a bunch of specific names depending on the talent but the basic version is called Wizard aka the book worm/the knowledgeable one/smart one/hacker/sometimes combined with the resourceful one but that can be a separate class as well such as the engineer/the tinkerer/the mechanic/the one good with tools. Then we have the Fighter/the football star/the athletic one/sometimes the leader/the warrior. Then the Thief/the sneak/the pickpocket/the quiet one/sometimes the archer. There is the Ranger/the scout/the sniper/a hunter/animal and/or nature lover. Then we have elves/the pretty ones. Dwarves/the stocky grumpy ones. Orcs/the ugly or rejects. There are a lot more races these days and a lot more focus on removing stereotypes within those races; this is just how it originally was, is all. Many more classes and races and you can mix and match to your heart's content but all misfit groups are D&D groups; plus all of these can be flipped in the sense of creating an evil/dark version for the villain and the villains generals. They are character archetypes for story writing. Then we have so so soooo many monsters, some of which are very intelligent, so much so that we now can make them into characters, mostly villains but not always. Our characters need hurdles or personal demons to defeat/overcome. Then we have different planes of existence. This is very complex because most planes are focused on one aspect; for instance, Pandemonium, the plane of insanity. Or basic ones like the Plane of Fire, lol. These are hells or heavens to the characters. Lands to journey that are seldom traveled. Even mazes are included here. There are also an endless supply of magic items/macguffins/plot devices that are made only to seem rare but every story always seems to have them. These are representations of luck and chance and fate. And lastly, its polytheistic. Good gods, bad gods, and gods inbetween. In more modern stories, these are aspects or items of worship/obsession. For instance, the workaholic character could worship money or obsess about providing for their family so much so that they neglect their family. Most actors, or performers in general, play D&D. Its the ultimate improv session where you get to practice fleshing out a character and voices and storytelling and listening to your fellow performers so that together you create a story.

Fun reaction as always, another film with Hugh Grant is Paddington 2 you should see if you can judge what kind of character he will be in that 🤔also unless you just didn't film it there was a end credit scene, hope your health is improving keep drinking lots of water and get plenty of sleep 🙂❤

Right. Faerun is just one setting in the same world, There are at least 3 other published 'settings' (that can overlap) on that same world! Most D&D worlds are like our Earth and have a mix of races besides Humans: Dwarves, Elves, Hobbit, Orcs with subraces and variations of those basics, plus new subraces of Humans never seen on our world. Some worlds are more like Dune or the moon of Endor or Waterworld (eyeroll - but I mean worlds with a dominant terrain like desert, forest, or seas). D&D worlds can be almost anything you (or your Dungeon Master DM) want them to be. I've always preferred my Prime campaign set on Oerth in the Flanaess (commonly called the World of Greyhawk), but I have used the Planescape setting (which is a huge can of worms to cover in this comment) to cross over to different worlds (and different Planes ofc) for one-off adventures or Plane-spanning epics. Faerun (for me) is a good 'diversion-world' for my characters sometimes, but we always get back to Oerth (pronounced the same as Earth -- I also have created Urth and Iirth and Yrth all pronounced the same lol but rarely visited). The World of Greyhawk was the second-ever 'world' associated with D&D but Faerun (Forgotten Realms) at sometime surpassed it in popularity. My days of playing and running D&D games is mostly behind me; today I mostly just write. This movie was fun though. :-) I was surprised after the 1st D&D movie was so...

Yep Baulders Gate 3 is set in the D&D world, matter a fact this movie and BG3 take place in the same region of the map in the D&D world :)

One of the teams in the arena is the characters from the Dungeons and Dragons animated series (1983). Hopefully this movie will get a sequel as it performed much better than expected.

One of my absolute favorites from last year! Just a really fun adventure comedy with great action. ^^
