Finally, a Furby classic No joke, Gremlins 2 is incredibly good. The director of Gremlins, Joe Dante (NOT Steven Spielberg, he attached his name for appeal) didn't want to make it, so he pretty much was like "Okay, but I'm gonna get REALLY weird with it".... and boy.... DID HE.

Ian

I never notice Vicky cuz I'm always asleep 😀 but anyways shall be watching this tomorrow that's Saturday for me with snacks and drinks and just have a blast with your reaction . Sry to hear you're under the weather that sucks stay cosy and get better soon 🫂 . Amazing how something so cute can become something so gross eh no eating after midnight CHECK ✅

LightsCameraJake

Lol, I'm just now noticing Johnathan Banks (Mike from Breaking Bad) is in this film. Crazy how I am noticing actors in films I have seen a lot I have not noticed before until later in life after I've seen many movies and shows.

Matt

Its never to late for a Vkunia reaction 😊

Bryan Tuck

You think this one's chaotic, wait till you see GREMLINS 2 (which I do heartily recommend). It's insane. Then there's an animated series on MAX, which was just released within the past year. There's reportedly a second season coming at some point, assuming WB doesn't shut it down (or wait till it's finished and then just not release it).

Jacob King

Gremlins 2 is a brilliant example of malicious compliance. The Key and Peele Gremlins 2 sketch is also brilliant.

Mario Serra

Lol love how Vkunia is like why does he look like Mike from Breaking Bad and not yet realizing it is the same guy haha

2024-01-13 14:52:33 How did V's merch plug get past my ad blockers?... ;) Reminder, this is back when the phrase "ancient Chinese secret" wasn't seen as offensive and ill-informed as it is today. Gizmo and the gremlins are based off the idea of the old misunderstood legends and myths of mischief demons from Asia (referred to back then as the now understood offensive phrase "the Orient"). Lmao, I thought the yellow frosting on the gingerbread cookies was mustard too, lol. I never handled frosting or food dye or baked cookies yet before I saw this movie, lol. This leads into a whole genera of crazy films that don't have a category to group them into so they end up being hard to find these days. Gremlins 2: The New Batch is honestly better than the first. They lean into the style they built off this one haarrrdd, lol. They did try to make a gremlins cartoon because entertainment execs look at this and think "gremlins movies are kid movies, clearly" lol. Lasted 1 season. Chaos plots: Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead Amazing Stories: The Movie - anthology film based off anthology TV show Twilight Zone: The Movie - ditto Drop Dead Fred Mr. Mom Hot Shots: Part Deux Bedazzled Stripes Inner Space The Burbs Mars Attacks! vkunia

LightsCameraJake

Gremlins 2 is my favorite! The first one is shock value, the second one is, WE ARE CAPITOLIZING ON THIS CHAOS!

Mario Serra

Just an fyi there is another character from breaking bad that’s in Gremlins 2.

Bryan Tuck

If nothing else, #2 had a bigger budget, so there's a greater variety of gremlins! But yes, it is bananas. :)

MrAlexSan

Gremlins, plus Ernest Scared Stupid, were the first two "horror" movies I braved through as a kid. I remember being so proud of myself I didn't cover my eyes TOO much. Also, the Gremlin maniacal laughter lives rent free in my head since I was a kid lol

vkunia

DANGGGGG omg TJ thank you so much for the detailed list of recommendations!! :)) I had no idea Gremlins inspired so many films - I havent even heard of half of these!!!

Brian

i saw this as a kid in the 80's. I think I remember old timers back then reference gremlins in machines, like if something mechanical broke down they would say it was the gremlins in there. From wikipedia: It draws on legends of folkloric mischievous creatures that cause malfunctions—"gremlins"—in the British Royal Air Force going back to World War II.

Michael Labs

Thinking about it; I'm not sure I would describe gremlins as "evil" but as a force of pure, elemental mischief. As apocalypses go, a gremlin one might be a lot of fun... survivable even if you can just roll with it...

2024-01-13 14:52:33 Oh, i'm sorry, i meant Gremlins is a part of this crazy genera of films that center around chaos and unlikely heroes. There are hundreds of more films that dabble or use it to fuel a bigger plot. These are just some those that I remember/love that really center around chaos being the prime mover of the story. These films are part of this genera, that technically doesn't exist. It actually pulls back to a very old philosophy of the triumvirate; being the Good, the Bad, and the Inbetween. Mischief characters like Gremlins, like Loki, are necessary parts of the whole. Its one of the oldest beliefs dating back to when humans worshipped the Sun, even. The chaos is a necessary, and sometimes celebrated, as part of the balance of all things. The mischief makers are a blessing (and a curse) because they upset the balance, in order for the 2 opposites to re-orient the balance. If the mischief makers didn't upset things, then things would never change once they have achieved that balance. Stagnation, monotony, things get boring. The idea that life exists, and that life is enjoyable because mischief hates the status quo of balance. Life has purpose because mischief makes sure of it, by disrupting it. It really delves into the core of the idea of why we celebrate our differences, of why there isn't a correct way of things because we can observe many ways to do the same thing. Life exists because by a random chance of exactly the perfect storm of events; random molecules colliding with each other in just the right way, in just the right moment, in just the right environment (the primordial soup), to create amino acids and proteins, the building blocks of DNA (the root cause of evolution). Life finds a way because chaos makes sure that an opportunity, for it to find a way, happens. Chaos/mischief/disruptive characters are everywhere in films and in life. Most folktales and myths and legends have deities that embody chaos or random chance; pointing to the knowledge that even ancient civilizations and tribes of humans knew that sometimes, just sometimes, shit really does just...happen, lol. I love it. Studying film is an amazing way to learn about, well, everything. Because its not just the film, its also the people creating it, and people that came up with the idea, and where those skills and thoughts come from within those people. The how and why they pieced it together the way the did. But there is a down side, for me at least, when realizing that some of those reasons are just plain and simple profit. I've grown to understand that aspect better; overcoming my bitterness to corporations somewhat, lol. I just like to say that I 'prefer' the art of it over the bottom dollar, now. Pandering has its place too. I would be a hypocrite after saying all that above if I didn't accept that, reluctantly so ;)

The lack of any kind of explanation or mythology in this movie is so weird, as is any of the character doing anything that interesting, except for the mom kicking murderous butt. That was fun.

I can't believe I missed this update. Wasn't that chicks Christmas story about her dad amazing?

and it's not a Christmas movie... so you can watch it next week

In the kitchen when the mom was chopping onions and watching a movie, that was It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). In Billy’s bedroom they were watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), another movie worth watching. Also in Billy’s bedroom when Gizmo is watching the race car movie, that’s To Please a Lady (1950), not really a good movie, both Clark Gable and Barbara Stanwyck have much better movies that should be watched. At the inventors’ convention, when he’s on the phone, behind him is the time machine from The Time Machine (1960), an interesting movie. Also, the robot that walks by is Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet (1956), which is worth seeing.
