Oh my gosh guys.... So Firefly is officially over. I don't want to spoil too much but based off the thumbnail you can tell I was devastated. Firefly was such a great show and it was cut much too short.  Serenity was done wonderfully in my opinion and I feel like they tied all of the loose ends well for the short amount they were given.  My thoughts are more coherent in the ending review I PROMISE (as coherent as they can be LOL)

I hope you guys enjoy, thank you so much for joining me on this journey :)

Oh boy! I am so excited for this!

Kelvin

I see you have found Serenity.

Oh snap! I've been waiting for this reaction for awhile now, I'm excited to see this one!

Very nice dress, Vee. 😊 Early in the morning here, it's the right time to watch Serenity now. 😉 ... And now afterwards, I can only say that your reaction is really on point and I was very excited by it. They did the best they could, created a very good movie and and closed many open ends with it. As you say, it's just a shame that the whole series ended way too soon.

Remember in "Bushwacked" when River seemed to be able to sense the actions of the guy turning Reaver on them? I think part of the project was to create fighters that could destroy the Reavers. Because, even the Alliance couldn't ignore this problem forever. Someday they'd have to deal with it, though I'm betting they're thinking more of protecting their own skins than any concern for the well-being of their citizens. Otherwise, very bittersweet ending. Made more so in that there was the hint that more might be coming, but this movie didn't get enough traction to warrant it. As for Book, if you find the comics, there's one that deals with his backstory, so I'd suggest looking it up. I love how a lot of your guesses were right for the wrong reason. Yes, Miranda was a test planet, but not for the code word programmed into River.

His background is explored further in the comic book Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale. Book was born Henry Evans, a boy who was raised by an abusive father. He ran away from home and began life as a petty criminal before being recruited by the Independence movement and moving out to the Border Worlds. Long before the Alliance begins the Unification War, forward-thinking Browncoats assign Evans to be a long-term mole. He sheds his old identity by killing a random passerby and stealing his identification card, becoming Derrial Book. His Browncoat superiors keep tabs on him by surgically removing one of his eyes and replacing it with a camera. He joins the Alliance military and quickly moves up in rank. Becoming an officer, Book intentionally leads a risky operation that results in a humiliating defeat for the Alliance. He is forced to retire from the Alliance military. It is implied that the Alliance covers up the loss, therefore not officially punishing Book. Homeless, he visits a soup kitchen and finds God while contemplating a bowl of soup. He takes refuge at an abbey where he becomes a shepherd before leaving on Serenity to become a missionary. Alan Tudyk was interviewed and talked about a time he was signing autographs, and he signed a girl's photograph "I'm a leaf on the wind... Alan Tudyk" She ran away in tears, leaving him stunned.

Nathan Fillian went on to a show called "Castle", which has a LOT of cameo callbacks to Firefly. This was one of my favorites https://youtu.be/3Q3pdj9p6yI

This made my month! Thank you Vicky, I have definitely have been waiting for this react and you didn't disappoint at all. I am really glad you took this journey and we were able to convince you to become a browncoat. This may be my favorite series of all time and I remember when you started how lukewarm you were to the series. It was so much fun watching you learn about the universe & crew and in turn, fall in love with all of them(well... except for maybe Jane :D ) I agree completely that it was cut to short. It's heart breaking what fox did to the crew and show. And, while sometimes I wish there were a million episodes, I also love the fact the it is 14 great episodes with one amazing movie. They didn't have a chance to drive it into the ground or just ruin it, just one perfect season and movie. Thank you again for the reaction, not just movie but series. It really made me smile.

River's memories about Miranda and the Reavers were not implanted. There are things she picked up because they made the mistake of putting her in the same room as the high-ranking members of state. Remember that The Operative killed that doctor at the beginning because he had screwed up by allowing those secrets to leak.

Buffy next? Buffy next!

BSG?

Honestly when I first saw this movie over a decade ago I had no idea that there was a tv show before it lol But once I saw the movie it instantly became one of my favorite films of all time. It wasn't until years later when I started living on my own did I actually find out there WAS a tv show! I feel if I did watch the show first, then I probably would have reacted the same way you did with all the deaths. I would have felt far more invested. Of course having seeing all the episodes many times and seeing the movie again, it always feels far more impactful now. Thank you Vee for the firefly journey. It was so fun to revisit everything from a different point of view. 😊

The Operative in this is such a great example of how scary/dangerous a “True Believer” in a cause can be. Someone that believes so completely in a cause that they don’t even just think the cause excuses them for bad things and let’s them still be a good person, they will do the most horrible things while very aware of how bad it is and accepting that it makes them a “bad person” because they feel it’s necessary.

Cowboy Bebop movie next and then we can have a big ol' feeling of emptiness!

Did I miss you watching episodes 12-14? I figured those would be done before you moved on to the movie.

12-14 are there, just check the series tab Vicky has at the top.

Firefly has some amazing other stories, if you are willing to read comics. If you want to know Book's backstory, read "The Shepherd's Tale". Also, *SPOILER*, at the end of Serenity Zoe is actually pregnant. She leaves the crew for some time to have the baby, who is named Emma, and when she returns to the ship everyone pitches in to help raise her. Another beautiful story is called "The Wind & the Warrior", where River is left to watch baby Emma while others go on a job. She tells Emma the story of Zoe and Wash in the form of a fairy tale. It is a beautiful story. I encourage you to read the Firefly/Serenity comics, they are well worth the time and effort. On another note, yet another viewing to add to dozens others and I STILL haven't made it through without crying. I kind of hope I never do, though. On the subject of more Firefly, it's looking like a case of 'Beware what you wish for'. Disney (who got Firefly in the Fox deal), has announce that they are working up a Firefly series for Disney+, but that isn't necessarily a good thing. They have said in the past that it will be a reboot with new cast, and that it will be toned down from PG-13ish to PGish (presumably in the hopes that it will attract a wider audience). Besides the fact that other people won't ever be able to play the characters in a way that feels right, there has been conjecture that one casualty of the ratings drop will be either eliminating or critically altering Inara, as sex workers don't really fit into a PG show. I would guess that a rebooted Jayne would be pretty different, too, considering how much of his character revolved around 'war and wenching', to use the older terms. My one thread of hope is that they have done pretty well with live action Star Wars shows that haven't shied on violence, so there's a distant maybe that they'd have something on the level of The Mandolorian or the upcoming Book of Boba Fett.

"Disney wants to reboot Firefly for Disney +" My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

Same. Still one of my top ten favorite films of all time.

What the hell… you played fallout?? Think i love you even more now lol 😎😂

A lot of fans were just destroyed by Wash's death, but from a storytelling standpoint it was brilliant. His death made viewers feel like anyone could die, it raised the stakes for the scenes that followed in a way nothing else possibly could. How many times did you say "River is going to die, no way she survives" or "Simons is going to die!" I think without Wash's death your brain would default to "no matter what happens the main characters are going to live, obviously."

If you truly want to learn about Shepard Book, Joss Whedon who wrote the show expanded on some plot lines by teaming up with Dark Horse comic's. This is a worthwhile read, if you are curious. https://www.amazon.com/Serenity-Shepherds-Tale-Zack-Whedon/dp/1595825614 There is also comics that directly follow the events of Serenity, one of the first things you learn is that Zoe is pregnant with Wash's baby. High recommend reading them if you loved the show.

The reason River knew about Miranda and what happend there was mentioned at the beginning of the movie. "The minds behind every tactical and scientific endeavor in the Aliance, and you put them in a room with a psychic." So River learned about Miranda from one of the top Parlement folks, and had that in her subconcious, which was tearing her mind apart, making her crazy. Once she could put information to the thoughts, she got better, resolved the inner conflict. Also the reason the plot of the movie seemed rushed was because they used a generalized version of the intended plot for season 2 as a storyboard for the movie. After a few tweaks, the big stuff that happened in the movie was the stuff that was supposed to happen in season 2.
