Awesome react Vicky! I agree, this isn't my favorite episode but it's definitely a sleeper for me. I have seen this series so many times and this episode, without fail, gets me emotional at the end. I totally understand why you don't like Tracey, and while I am not saying I like him, I don't hate him either. I am very sympathetic to the character because I identify with the idea of how flawed he is. Is he inherently a bad person? Or is he someone who is trying to dig himself out of bad situations by making choices *he* thinks are his only choice? It's easy in hind sight to say we will make the truly noble choice and come out the hero but truth is life is scary and while we try to be brave and tough often times he aren't, and we're just trying to survive. It's easy to condemn someone when we're at a good place in life, especially when we've always been in a (relatively) good place. Some people have started out in a bad place, don't have a lot of great opportunities\resources\support systems, and are just trying to survive. I empathize with Tracey because I have definitely made decisions in my life like that, and have hurt people I have loved. Like Tracey, I don't think I am a bad person, I am just a dumb himbo sometimes :D That's why, while this isn't my favorite episode, it has a special place in my heart, more than most.

Loving your reactions to this series! There is a special bond that develops between people that share experiences. War bonds people like nothing else, for better or worse. The honor and respect shown to a fallen comrade is a part of that bond. I don't blame you at all for not liking Tracy. He was written to not be likable. He was a weak and selfish person unwilling to listen to others, but willing to take advantage of that special bond for personal gain and didn't care that he was putting others in danger.

So "fun" fact, this episode was shot about the time the cast and crew were informed that the series was being cancelled and they kinda considered it the show's send-off, especially the score from the final scene.

Yes this episode gets everybody at the end. It is not the best built but the end gets me. Tracy was "an idiot in every way possible".

If the show would have gone on for a few seasons, this episode would be one of those that don't stick out as brilliant, but it would be setting the mood. Just slipping in some background and overall theme between the big main-story episodes. As we only have half a season we have to judge it for what it is and it's not the best. Anyway, can't stop me from loving Firefly

Did you catch the part where Jayne is sending money back to his mother? Someone ought to compile a book of sayings of the great philosopher Malcom Reynolds. "You are such a boob." Probably the most concise thing River's ever said. Maybe that was going to be a theme of the show, that the war never really ended, it just paused for a while.

Yes, it's illegal to ship people, living or dead. Not sure you caught it or not, during the flashback at the beginning Mal said, "Someone might be carrying a bullet with your name on it...". Of course, you heard towards the end when Mal said he carried that bullet. Great reaction, thanks
