Leather1969

Wash always felt there was an extra connection that Mal and Zoe had. Sure he was married to her, but they had a something extra. He neve had a connection with anyone he worked with like they had. Once he got to see first hand how Mal is not just an employer but a leader did he get it. Much better game of Tetris going this time around. Kepp up the good work.

Not only is Book shooting calmly, accurately and efficiently, he’s frequently doing it from the hip. The man definitely has some training and experience.

Just in case no one has said it yet. Objects in Space is my favorite episode.

I mean, we can see the difference of how Zoe behaves with Wash, and then how she behaves with Mal. It’s very obvious to us that one of those relationships is in fact romantic and the other is not. It actually really bothered me that he thought Mal was a threat somehow.

Marksmanship is standard training for religious men. Right between psychopathic philosophy and police and military tactics. I don't see what's so strange about Book. All clergy get priority medical assistance and can disarm and knock out a marshal in less than a second. All very normal.

We men can be emotional too! We are allowed to make emotional decisions! I demand equal rights!

Like I said last week. Get a fresh box of tissues. :D More laughs more tears, and a few more shocks coming up. I can't wait.

You've mentioned "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" before and that you had a friend who worked on that show. This is a series you may want to watch after you finish your current crop, but I won't give it the "OMG YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS SHOW IT'S THE BEST EVER!" push. It's definitely good (I own both seasons on DVD), but it was the victim of many of the same behind-the-scenes problems that hit "Firefly". Poor scheduling, reduced episode count, etc. It had a shortened first season, and never quite managed to find its footing before being cancelled after season two. The biggest obstacle to getting into it now is that, unlike "Firefly", it never became a cult hit so there was not enough pressure to get any kind of conclusion made afterwards. No final movie like "Serenity", or even comicbooks or novels. Once the show ended, that was IT. I still think it's a worthwhile watch, and Summer Glau and Lena Headey are absolutely fantastic in their roles (I think Lena is the best Sarah Connor after Linda Hamilton herself). But it's one of those shows that you need to go into with your eyes open.

I love this episode because of the torture scene where you see Mal not only being a leader but pushing Wash to keep thinking and arguing to keep his mind intact. Mal shows Wash exactly why Zoe is so loyal, and Wash becomes a strong believer.

So many great moments in this episode: "You want to meet the real me now?" "No, what this marriage needs is one less husband." "I'll be in my bunk." "We'll be in our bunk." Kaylee gets her apple back: "No power in the 'verse can stop me." River shoots three men: "No power in the 'verse can stop me."

I'm personally not the greatest fan of this episode. The violence felt sort of gratuitous and kind of not in line with the general tone of the show. Then action sequences in general are not that appealing to me, it's not why I watch a show like this, it's more about the character exploration. And while we got some character exploration, Wash being this whiny and jealous and having this weird conversation with Mal about Zoe just felt kind of toxic. And we got basically nothing from the other characters. Niska is a one-dimensional evil freak that adds nothing for me to the show, Jayne I can't stand anyway because most of what counts as his humor feels very dated (like getting so aroused by the sight or imagination of two women sleeping together, just eugh, stop it), and Keeley and Simon also added nothing to this episode. I did like the further development of River's character but her whole arc is kind of tragic to me because it's clear that Whedon wanted a very slow development for her over multiple seasons but didn't get it, so every slow, incremental bit of character development with her feels like a wasted opportunity, unfortunately.

Signed up on Patreon because I loved your Expanse reactions, stuck with you when I heard you were doing Firefly. LOVE this series! I hope you end with the movie Serenity and make that available on the same tier, but either way I really enjoy your reactions! Will stay with you longer if you do Babylon 5 next (that's my all-time favorite sci-fi!) Oh yeah! Per your request, my favorite scene in this ep was Mal forcing the conversation about Zoe to get Wash through the torture. Watch the DVDs on your computer.

I think the Wash trying to be badass with the tiny gun is my favorite joke in the whole series.

IIRC it's BSG next up.. As memory serves it won the poll anyways.. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong..
