“My new favorite character is Vera.” LOL! Anyhow, great reaction. I think you nailed it when you commented that the short duration of the series is sort of a blessing in disguise because there wasn’t an opportunity for it to go downhill. A lot of Firefly fans feel similarly, even while lamenting that they want more.

So this was my first show for me to ever see Morena, AND to see Christina! ... oh, if you like Anara, have you seen her in "Gotham"? Her real life husband is the lead in that show, but she steals every single scene she's in.

I wonder if someone lost (or maybe won) a bet and had to try and fit as much innuendo as possible into this single "special hell" episode of network television. Once Saffron appears on the ship it's almost non-stop and usually quite hilariously written. And bonus for us, it led to a lot of fun Angela reaction faces. While we'll never actually know if Firefly could have kept up the quality if it had gotten more seasons, I like to think that it would have based on the fact that Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel both kept the quality up pretty high over many seasons with few exceptions. Unfortunately for us multiple seasons of Firefly just wasn't meant to be. There was never any doubt that you would be "one of us" at some point with this show. It was only a matter of how many episodes it would take to get you there. Glad to have you on board!

I haven’t watched Gotham I think maybe a sign episode when it first came out but other than that I never watched it

I have watched this episode I don't know how many times, and I only just now realized that River was not in this episode at all...??

This is definitely one of my favorites (it’s hard to pick one favorite). I love that we ended the introduction on a long shot of Mal’s confused face, and ended the episode with a similar one on Inara’s…both, the definition of Gobsmacked. It’s hard to imagine this show keeping up its quality. Many shows seem to come together after a second or third season, when the cast really has true chemistry. How I Met Your Mother is a good example. But this show just had the chemistry from the start! (Good thing they replaced the original actress for Inara with Morena Baccarin last minute!) I look at this show, and I think of other Joss Whedon shows, and I wonder about the quality. Both Buffy and Angel started off good, then got great, then (mostly) petered out……………..though the reasons behind Angel, now that we know, is *awful*. But the other big one of his, The Dollhouse, only got two seasons and felt like it needed more. But whatever the possibilities, I’m still sad we didn’t get to see it. But at least it seems we’ll get something new in the ‘Verse from Disney. Hopefully.

You are not mistaken that the line about the preacher knowing so much about crime was included in the previously on, I think it was last weeks episode. This was because Fox aired the episodes out of order, including using Train Job for the series premier. The 2 hour first episode Serenity was not show till December.

This ep contains 2 of my favorite Mandarin Chinese to English translations said by Mal and Wash. MAL (talking to Jayne) [The explosive diarrhea of an elephant), are you offering me a trade? WASH(talking to Saffron) [Holy mother of god and all her wacky nephews] do I wish I was somebody else right now. Somebody not married, not madly in love with a beautiful woman. Book knows about crime from being Detective Ron Harris on the Barney Miller sitcom from the 70s. Search ‘Barney Miller Hash’ on YouTube for a good laugh. Great ending scene. Mal is an idiot because Inara was going to come clean on kissing him. This show does tend to make one smile. 😄 It sucks when it ends, but smile because it happened.

I think the mind reading ability of River was the reason for that, she should have picked up that "Saffron" was bad news immediately, which would have destroyed the premise of the episode or at least ruined the twist. If we don't see her, were are not reminded of that problem.

This one kicks off a really strong run of episodes. Not that I don’t love them all, but I tend to think Our Mrs. Reynolds is where it really hits its stride.
