This 1st season of Ted Lasso is as close to a perfect season of television that I've ever seen. It even beats out The Good Place and the Expanse for first seasons.

Your observations and intros are always on point and you're bang on with this one. It's never really out of left field, so it's really refreshing that you seem to just "get it", and maybe that's due to your background with Bill Lawrence shows. It's always a pleasure to watch you discover these shows for the first time, this one specifically.

We (you, I, other patrons) have talked about the writing, how refreshing it is that they don't artificially create tv drama, misunderstandings that drag on just for the sake of drama. I would say it's *confident* writing. I love it so much. Even here, Rebecca has that moment with Ted where she procrastinates, but she ends up confessing like 5 minutes later. Instead of 5 episodes later. And he forgives her. "Divorce is hard." I love it. Again, I think insecure writers would draw that out, give him this speech about it. He says, what, 2 more sentences? I feel like a generic sitcom would've taken twice as long for that scene, made it half as good. (I said "half as good" for the symmetry of it, but more like 1/10th as good.)

Oh, ALSO: I only now noticed: Roy rubs his beard after his niece says it's scratchy. (I either never noticed, or I just didn't twig on to the significance of it.)

Absolutely! Knowing where you want the story to go and getting there without the added drama and ridiculousness some shows stuff their stories with is what I love about this show. It’s realistic-ish enough with all the silly fun.

You're right, Rupert IS horrible. I think Rebecca finally realized that no matter what she does she will never out-cruel Rupert. I've also seen a Galaxy game with Donovan & Beckham. Seeing Beckham play is something special.

I don’t think Rebecca is meant to be cruel. She literally succeeded, and now all she wants to do is fix it. She’s such a good person and Rupert didn’t deserve her in the first place.

I absolutely loved the final 3 episodes of the first season. There's really not many shows that I've watched that nail a first season the way Ted Lasso did. It's incredible how this show can deliver on both the comedy and serious emotional moments of the show without have a serious moment ruined by a poorly timed joke and vice versa. Can't wait to start season 2 with you!

I love all the character depth in this show because they kind of tricked me in the first season into believing a lot of the supporting cast were just very one-note trope-y characters but wow by the end of the first season and through the following ones do they totally surprise you.

I was annoyed no one on the show ever pointed out that Rupert got a new rebecca to get back at Rebeca and when that didn't work he married rebecca and when that didn't work he had a child with rebecca. Now in a year or two when rebecca realizes Rupert did all this to get back at Rebecca she's going to divorce him and Rupert is going to spend the next 18 years (the rest of his life) paying rebecca child support. He completely F'd himself all in an attempt to get back at Rebecca for leaving him.

Yeah. That's the problem with revenge. It feels good in the moment but the karma and pain and trouble it brings later is substantially greater than just taking the hit and moving on. Which, for Rupert, he'll just throw money at and make it worse.

The character growth and the arcs that take an episode or two to resolve are truly the best thing about this show. You are meant to love Ted at the get go, but all the other characters become so much greater and better and beloved. Except Rupert, he's just a prick and will keep being one.
