As you are enjoying Vox Machina, have you seen the Netflix Castlevania series? It is another animated show with some great fight scenes and snark turned up to 11, that gets pretty dark at some points. It’s based on a long-running video game series but is a standalone thing that requires no prior knowledge.

I don't know how but I would love some perspective of how or if this show feels different from other shows. If you can tell it's just a few friends who got lucky and had a bunch of money thrown at them with no oversight. I have watched nearly all their content twice over and I watch a few highlights a week from different episodes so my context for everything that happens in this show is so skewed I can't really get a good read on it as a standalone just plain TV show.

So I just watched another episode, and I put this in my commentary so when you see it, it won’t be a surprise… But the thing that I like most about the show is the complete randomness of the way the story was written. It wasn’t written like other shows that were storyboarded, or character arcs being created from beginning to end. The literal roll of the dice kind of determines the direction in which the story goes, and I love that. So I would say that that’s the biggest difference is that there is nothing stringent and stiff and stern about the storytelling. It’s very much free form.

We’ll see! I’ve heard of it and it’s been mentioned a couple times. It may just take a while to get there with all the other stuff I have planned to watch.
