Star Trek TOS S3 ep10 Plato's Stepchildren Ah, *The Kiss* Fun fact: Another take during this scene has the two NOT kiss (an exec ordered the director to do it so it could be available) but Shatner crossed his eyes during the take, rendering it useless. I was four going on five when it originally aired and probably saw it for the first time when I was eight or nine. I actually never thought of the kiss being interracial - after all they are both Human beings! Perhaps the kiss between Spock and Christine (Leonard and Majel) MIGHT be called 'half-interracial', since Spock is half-Human... :D Any way you wanna slice it, splice it, edit it or credit it, Nichelle was always awesome. R.I.P.

A correction: Diogo's Uncle Mateo did NOT destroy the Scipio Africanus. He pretty much missed it with most of those rocks. It got scratched and maybe a bit more, but def not destroyed. Mateo's rock-hopper ship is the one we see go *poof* in Diogo's helmet.

I just watched this again LOL... Have you let Xander out yet? 😜

Great reaction! Miller is definitely a slow burn, but he became one of my favorite characters. Note to your editor about his message at the end... Forgot to watch your doors and corners? ;)

Christoph Toifl

You really really don't like hat's :) Off topic: Heard Las Vegas had a little flooding problem, hope you are OK ...

T. Arnold Ferguson

Based on a couple of things you said in your opening remarks, it's obvious you're not going to really like this show - you're GOING TO REALLY LIKE THIS SHOW.

pooper

you missed amos's reaction to miller threatening holden :D

I can totally understand having a crush on Amos. If I would be into men, Amos would definitely be the one to have a crush on. :D Absolute favourite character of the show. I really like to see you getting more and more into the show and liking it. I thought about rewatching the show a few weeks ago and your reactions are a great way to do that. I'm really happy that I found them on youtube and headed over to patreon for the full reactions. Never really bothered about patreon, but your reactions are worth it. Keep it going. <3 I also like your general taste in films and shows. There's basically nothing where I would say it doesn't interest me. Especially waiting for next season of Cobra Kai, even though I will binge it as soon as it's there and then rewatch it here with your reaction. :) And for your editor: So... you have a bucket?

I'm old enough to have seen the first run of ST:TOS so each time we loose one of those actors it hits me. RIP Nichelle.

I appreciate the love. The more I watch the more I connect with all of the characters and the story live in my brain all day long. I don't want to rush my reactions, but I want to get to the end and re-watch and see what I missed the first time. Cobra Kai is SO SOON!

Let's flirt with LOVE.... If the show keeps moving in an upward trajectory like it is, I can't imagine I won't love it as much as everyone else does!

I'm glad you mentioned the well written women in this show. I know I'm not alone in the belief that this show has some of the most badass women in all of SYFY. Naomi and Chrisjen are as intelligent and clever as anyone. Next season you will meet 2 new women that lets just say - don't piss them off. One can go toe to toe with Amos. Amos is my favorite. Things are going to get crazy & shit is going to hit the fan. Better get used to a cliffhanger at the end of most episodes now. Look forward to your reaction every week.

As George Takai would say "Oh my"! Love might not be strong enough. I have never fallen for a show like I have for this one. (I recognize a lot of the commentors here too, some of us were there for the #SaveTheExpanse campaign in 2018 when the show was cancelled after season 3.) you have the Screaming Firehawks to thank (in part) for giving you 3 more seasons of this fantastic show! We can talk more about that later of course...

DrEEsky

yes, from now on it will be "oh no, its over??" and " I can't believe they ended it there!" Looking forward to that, always makes me laugh!

I, too, am old enough to have watched the original ST show. RIP Nichelle. I also agree that this show has the best strong female characters. You have Naomi and Chrisjen and more to come. It also has very few 'all good' or 'all bad' characters. Many shades of grey. You can't tell the Good guys from the Bad by the color of their lazer swords!

I'm glad you are warming up to Amos. It takes a while. He is a very complex character. The fact that he is played by Wes Chatham probably helps his popularity with the ladies. ;) I don''t think he was that pretty in the books. You will learn about his background in later seasons but without spoilers you can assume there were very few good role models around. He assumes almost everyone, including himself, acts in their own self interest at all times. If your self interests align with his you can work together, if not, we have a problem. He is great in kill or be killed situations, like you observed during the hotel lobby shootout. But for larger more morally ambiguous situations he is not your guy. For most shows that would be the end of it. He would be the hot head shoot first, ask questions later, if at all, character. But they made him way more interesting by making him completely self aware of this. He knows that's how he is - the same as most people. But he knows there are other people, the very rare "good people". They must be like unicorns in his world view. When he finds one of those he latches on and trusts them instead of his own instincts for those ambiguous situations. Naomi, obviously, is his 'good person' at the moment and has become his moral compass. Answering the distress call is a good example of one of those situations. The best thing in the immediate self interest of the crew of the Cant would be to ignore it. But several members of the crew thought the 'right' thing to do was to answer it, because the next distress call needing to be answered might be your own. (I think Holden would have let it go had he not heard Julie's voice on the recording.) On his own it would be an easy decision for Amos - ignore it. But if Naomi said it was the right thing to do he would support her. In addition to trusting a 'good person' with those decisions he also commits to protecting them. I guess because they are so rare and valuable in his eyes. He also has a real soft spot for kids. Sorry for the length of this! You could write a book just about Amos. Speaking of books, I haven't read these so maybe someone who has could shed more light on him.

Yeah, I noticed last ep (haven't watched 8 yet) - he's a bit of a black/white character, which can be interesting in fiction but in real life overly rigid. (Alan Moore's Rorschach is a great example; Moore seems not to understand why people like Rorschach because Moore thinks he's a shitty person, but it's like... the rules are different in fiction. ALSO, he's got a badass persona, sorry dude.) HOWEVER... while it can be overly rigid, in the scenario when preparing to be boarded, there is value in Amos' decisive approach. It's only natural to be scared to commit to violence; as long as you keep trying to talk your way around a confrontation, to talk your way out of it, there remains potential for shit to not hit the fan. Once you commit to violence, that's it. I'm normally more on Holden's side than Amos', but in this case, I'm 100% behind Amos; he knows what has to be done and isn't going to spend time pretending there are other options, no matter how comforting that might be. And his response to Holden, deciding "I'm gonna do what I feel is right, you do what you need to do" is very relatable too. No use trying to convince Holden, his mind is made up (just as Amos' was).
