Re-watching Farscape makes me regret ever wanting 10, 12, 16, etc. episode short seasons with no "filler." There never was any filler. You only get finales like this by taking your time.

I just want to say, you have so many great observations and questions about the direction the show is taking, and I sincerely hope no one spoils them for you. One of the great joys of Farscape is that it rewards you for watching it and being invested in its many plot threads.

I loved this show and these characters long before we get to this episode, but the scene with Crais in the cell, with John just sitting there, talking so calmly and casually, almost being funny, and then switching into white hot anger, while the whole time he's silently crying too? That was where I fell in absolute love with Ben Browder's acting. It's so complex and real. Face to face with the man who chased him across the galaxy (Space Chase! An early title for the show.) John's just full of too many emotions, and he doesn't need to be macho or bluster or threaten. He's going to feel all those emotions and not be at all emasculated by them. Crais is in a cage and John can mourn all the reasons why that didn't have to happen and how different his experience of the last year could have been, if not for this irrational despot that he now probably needs. Ugh. There just aren't many male characters who are allowed to emote like that and wear their complexity without apology. And that's Ben bringing John to life, managing to be incredibly sexy and magnetic and a mess and a hero all at once.

Excellent reaction . That was truly a Khan moment 😀. It was a perfect season finale and it's not fair you only waited 15 min . You should waited at least a week to feel a glimpse of what we had to go through ... I hate you 😂 .Can't wait for 2x01 . Well for entire season 2 which you will see is even better .

"I have a job to do, and I am not afraid." The delivery of that line was absolutely perfect, and has lived in my head for over twenty years. This episode is packed with wonderful moments between the characters, showcasing how they really have grown as a family over the course of the season. Even Chiana, the late arrival, showing vulnerability and sincerity that she never would have no so long ago. Even Rygel, in the end. Although John is correct when he talks about "the right thing starts at the beginning of the day," and Rygel just isn't built to understand selflessness. I think expecting huge amounts of growth from a guy who is about 500 cycles old and spent most of them as an emperor is unfortunately going to be in vain. The whole cast are just incredible in this episode, but particularly Ben Browder in the scene with Crais, and in the last recording to his dad. He should have won an Emmy for this episode. Oh, and Claudia Black in the scene with Pilot. Imagine being so good that you can play off a huge, rubber puppet and do a better job than most actors ever could. As for John and Chiana, I see their relationship as kind of 'step-siblings who first met as horny teenagers and don't quite have normal boundaries.' Can't really blame her for shooting her shot, but I do think she was being genuine when she said it was about thanking him for everything he's done for her. They have a different, friskier chemistry than John and Aeryn, who have this simmering heat between them that you feel whenever they're in a scene together.

And now you know why I wanted you to watch this and the premiere of next season at the same time… the wait was almost unbearable when this first aired. Especially with all the cryptic hints the showrunners kept teasing us with about what was coming.

John is truly a marvel. There are zero leading men like him. I do wish more male character were written like him because it's more honest to the human experience. Heavy emotions while still being rational is not seen from men on film. It's either anger and just anger, or immeasurable sadness. No nuance. When I gush about John it always makes me emotional because I'm also describing my fiance without saying it.

Yes they killed many, many, many people. They Alderaan-ed a whole bunch of people. It sounded like a good diversion but I don't think Scorpious gave a shit. John is the prize and tactically a base for the ultimate weapon is a no brainer. Rygel gonna Rygel. He'll always be a weasel but he's our weasel. Just view him as a scuzzier less important Baltar. The wormhole was real, earth wasn't (formed from John's memory like a holodeck).

I've always had the feeling with this finale that they didn't know if the series was going to have a second season, and that's why they say goodbye so much.

Rygel's defining trait, for better or worse, his greatest strength AND weakness, is that he is *immutable.* Durka didn't break him, 130 cycles aboard the Zelbinian didn't break him. He's over 500 cycles old. For all *we* feel for the events of the show, this might as well be a wild weekend for Buckwheat. Rygel is selfish and arrogant and unchanging, but he is also resolute and remarkably competent. It's only touched on briefly, early on, but Rygel is the whole reason they managed to escape the Peacekeepers in the first place.

Notes from a Farscape fan (and I think this will be a long one): 1) I know I'm the local Rygel-apologist, but even I won't try and defend his actions here. Absolute little shitheel. But what I will do is once again highlight how brilliant the Henson Company is. He makes you so mad, and not once do you even think about how silly it is that you're so mad at a muppet. 2) A brief highlight of two Chiana moments. When she interacts with John, she tries to sleep with him as thanks, because she puts her self-worth into her sexuality. She literally says its the only way she knows how to thank him. But we know that's not true - and she proves it with that dinner later on. And I don't think she even put two and two together there - I don't think she consciously made the dinner as an 'alternative' to sex. I think she did it because she wanted to make her new family happy, and didn't even realise that she was doing precisely what she had intended to do in that prior scene with John - thanking them for their care. 3) Zhaan's comments about family take on another level when you remember her last family. Before the crew she was a prisoner. Before prison she was a murderer. Who did she murder? Her beloved. Her family. John calling her his family gave her something else she had lost when she committed her murder. She regained her peace, her freedom, and her sanity on her own. John returned the last of what she'd lost in that conversation. 4) I laugh every time you get frustrated at the LACK of main character romance in this show. We all know just how much you adore main character romances! 5) I think you're starting to really understand the power of Scorpius as a character now. Rygel's greatest strength is his manipulation, and it just doesn't work on Scorpius. I've described the highlight of this show before as being how they address science fiction trappings and tropes, then defy them with realistic interactions. Scorpius is the embodiment of the answer to the question audiences always scream at fictional characters 'Why didn't they just do -blank-?!' Scorpius does. 6) Let's end it on a high note: hey, with Crais kidnapping Moya's baby, he's now piloting both ships! One in person, and one in voice! (But seriously, another example of the brilliance of Henson - it's impossible to see Crais and Pilot as the same person, right?)

They didn't know if there would be a season 2 when they filmed this, so they set it up so it could function as a finale for the show if it had to. It's mentioned in the DVD commentary, which I'm still working on summarizing (the non-spoilery bits, at least).

Please don't post spoilers. Somebody already spoiled Angela for a big Doctor Who thing that was posted this week, and which didn't have as much emotional resonance as a result. She mentioned in that vid that it was frustrating, and asked that we not mention anything to do with episodes that haven't yet been posted. I know your comment doesn't spoil plot points, but it sounds like a spoiler for character development. It seems like you were just trying to reassure her, since Crais stealing Talyn caused screaming, but it's more fun for all if she doesn't know how things turn out until the show is ready to reveal it at the most devastating moment possible.

so many awesome moments in this finale! john’s message to his dad is one of my favorites, gets me every time 🥺 and his scene with crais in the cell? 🫨 “I look at you, and I get homesick…” then with rygel, aeryn, d’argo…too many to count honestly. now to my favorite season! can’t wait ☺️

It wasn't until years later that I wondered: When did Chiana have the time and materials to make all that stuff? I saw this episode when it aired. It broke me, especially Aeryn's reaction to Crais taking Talyn. You guessed Crais was the one stealing Talyn better than I did. At first, I thought it was Rygel, and then immediately they cut to Rygel saying "It's Crais!" as if anticipating my thought process. :D
