I'm still at work and can't watch it aaaahh!!! 😅

Just a fun fact: The position Berthold sleeping in this episode is similar to the Tarrot card called "The Hanged Man".

Anonymous

great reaction! cant wait for the full review :D don't push yourself whenever you can upload it we will be ready for the discussion :)

Oppai Master

Didn't expect to wake up to this

Dat Kenny and Uri poster at the back tho 👀

Zyuki

You are the first reactor I’ve ever seen to not laugh at young Reiner screaming.

Muhd Zulhilmi

Woah early release this week ? A welcomed surprise

Anonymous

Also one of the few that didn't scream "KENNY IS ANNIE'S DAD?"

Anonymous

what a great way to start the day, thanks king 😤✌🏻

The thing that always gets me with Reiner's backstory, is that his two motivations get crushed within a day and that's even before they reach the walls. His father rejects him, so his primary motivation of living with his father and mother is crushed right there, then he falls back on the whole chosen warrior thing and then Marcel takes that away from him as well. Since he's not chosen he'll just become Marcel, so that at least he has some sort of purpose for existing. Not a good start to 5 long years. Not to mention that the 4 after aren't any better.

Love your reaction as always. I hope you can also get the manga panels for this episode as well. Unfortunately they have to cut some scenes to fit into a 20min episode, some small details about Reiner, Annie and Berthold bursting into the wall are skipped. It doesn’t affect the narrative, but thats some good story writing (drawing) from Isayama san.

White

Furthermore The Hanged Man in the reversed position means wasted effort, indescision, stalling and wasted sacrifice. Quite telling IMO.

it felt good asf to wake up to this

Remember when Reiner was just the funny himbo in season 1? So excited you’re finally here! GAH I can’t wait for the discussion. This stretch in the manga is what catapulted Reiner to the top of my favorite characters list - considering his insanely tragic past especially in how it reflects in his behavior in seasons 1 and 2 before the reveal, not to mention the absolute horrific irony that the plot armored titan that can live through anything is actually very depressed and suicidal - but still, he keeps living, moving forward and found his door of hope in the Warrior candidates. There was a good amount of cut content, but I thought this adaptation was beautiful and very impactful written into a single episode ending with Falco’s conversation on the bench.

Bertolt sleeping position is reminiscent of the Hanged Man tarot card, I don’t think the meaning of the card says much for Bertolt’s character, but the old man’s story and subsequent suicide must have really haunted him, and be a sort of catalyst for his own guilt.

Anonymous

This is the episode he got the manga panels for, not anything else. Probably won't do it for any other episode ever because the rest of the cuts are minor, non existent and/or not safe to bring up.

Anonymous

One thing I never realized before this episode is why Reiner, Bert and Annie were on top of the class in scout training. It wasn't because they were titan shifters, but because they have already gone through the insane training before.

Sarah S

Yeah remember when Reiner helps Armin carry his bag in season 1? He probably remembers how it felt needing help with training - when he was a kid, running in the rain with the gun and bag all by himself 🥺

Thanos D. Alexioy

he is gonna read those manga panels. Pls don't spoil things here. It would be nice to delete this comment.

I almost cried seeing your reaction to reiner almost committing suicide

Candy Z

I can't watch this until tonight 😭 but I've been thinking about this all week tbh. You finally getting to see Reiner's past... I keep feeling like you're going to cry before he even picks up the gun. (I will cry along with you)

Anonymous

I would actually argue that those 5 years on Paradis were probably the happiest years of Reiner’s life

I love the image of kenny and uri in the background

Chikᶠⁱˡa

So I have a lil question for anyone, so it’s apparent that once 1 of the holder leaves the titan its body would still be there, I’m just wondering why back in S1 ep 5 when Eren tried to slice the colossal titan, it completely vanished with no trace what so ever. Did I miss anything? 😅 thanks in advance

Muhammad Affan

Hey Im! Legendary Reaction as always. Remember to watch post end credits scene in next episode. There is some episode there in the next episode. Next Episode is very juicy. I want your reaction asap.

This kind of provides some perspective to how much BS Bertholdt put up with regards to Reiner. He stuck with Reiner through thick and thin and got called unreliable in the end. Poor guy!!

石原 悟

That's not quite true. Berthold always went with the flow, he never made his own decisions. He didn't stop Annie or Reiner, he didn't fight Ymir, he said nothing concerning what they should do, he transformed when Reiner said so, he attacked Eren when Reiner called him. Even Eren called him a lackey, someone who just follows master around and does only what he's told. And in the end he was told "I always thought of you as unreliable, but I'm counting on you buddy".

hey! new patreon here when is the commentary gonna be available? :D

Anonymous

He said he had to put his computer to repair and that the video should be up at some point today (tomorrow in Europe)

Anonymous

If you read the lyrics from "Apple Seed" music (Berthold's theme), there are lyrics mentioning the hanging man and how he wants them to be remembered.

Conf3tti

I think this is the weakest episode of S4 so far. Obviously some very strong scenes in it, but they had to cut quite a bit to fit in what they did. The episode makes it seem like Reiner chokes out Annie and then they immediately break the walls while she's out, but that's not the case at all.

Anonymous

I'm surprised the super fast pacing of the episode didn't seem to bother Im. Some parts of the episode are really frantic. Luckily, Im will read all the cut flashback content, so no worries on that front.

Anonymous

I may be wrong, but I almost feel like this is only said by people who have read the manga, since apparently a lot of content is cut and you guys were expecting that to be in the episode. I'm an anime only and I find this episode to be incredible from the beginning till the end. Except yeah, if this is the last time we see the young warriors' backstory (which I hope not, but don't spoil anything of course), something longer would be nice.

Anonymous

Well it's not really a problem in the first place, they cut only a little bit. The rest of the scenes will appear later, all in all not much was lost.

Anonymous

I didn't mean the cut content. I meant the pacing itself is somewhat frantic in the 2nd half of the episodes. Like the transition from the hanged man to Annie/Kenny.
