Eren and Annie's relationship is much more flushed out in the manga than in the anime unfortunately, which is why Eren is so hesitant to fight her.. They are basically sparring buddies through their whole cadet training. Eren admires Annie for her skills, which he wants to learn, and Annie is flattered by this and likes his interest and admiration of her.. It even hints that Mikasa is quite jealous of Eren's interest in Annie, which makes the tension between Mikasa and Annie even more fitting.. I just wish they would have showed this relationship in the anime..

Episode 5 Armin compared to Episode 24 Armin is INSANE. You almost wouldnt believe it if you skipped the 20 episodes inbetween.
