“What!?” Alice was shocked. “I’m not an object I won’t marry anyone!”

“Calm down Miss,” Mina said since they were getting closer to the garden and didn’t want to cause a scene. “Your parents never intended to give you over to anyone. Who you wish to be with in the future is solely up to you. Well, that’s if they pass the background check, and a serious talk with your parents,” Mina said mumbling the last part.

“What was that?” Alice asked, wondering what Mina had just said.

“Oh, it’s nothing, I was just saying so long as he or she is a good person then they’ll openly be accepted.” Mina was worried that Alice heard her, but it would seem that she was safe. The Rhodes family was very dedicated to making sure that their partners were the perfect fit for them. If there was even a chance that they would do harm to them, they would be taken care of without question. As for where they go it’s best to leave it up to your imagination.

“Well, you don’t have to worry about that,” Alice said to her with a smile on her face. I don’t plan on getting into a relationship until I become the Queen of Games.”

“I do believe that your parents would like that determination of yours,” Mina said, as they finally made their way out to the middle of the garden where a table was set out for them and three people were already there waiting for them. One of them being her mother and the two others with blue hair must be the Andersons.

“Greeting mother,” Alice said giving her mother a small curtsey, which put a small smile on her face, seeing just how much her daughter had grown. “And greetings to you Mrs. Anderson,” Alice said giving another small curtsey to them, she would have greeted the gi=rl that looked a year younger than her, but she wasn’t certain how to address her.

“Hmm, not too bad,” Alice heard Mrs. Anderson say under her breath. “Though she still lacks refinement. It’s disappointing to see that your youngest daughter doesn’t carry the same grace as the oldest daughter even though they are only a few months apart,” Mrs. Anderson said, directing her insult of Alice to her mother.

“Well Alice has only been in our family for several months now and she has learned more than enough in these past few weeks to hold herself u high in any social gathering,” Ariana said back to her calmly, standing up for her daughter.”

“Perhaps you’re right,” Mrs. Anderson said, back to Ariana. “If you consider her origins this is indeed a great change. I can only imagine that you had a hard time training this one. What on earth possessed you to make you think that adopting someone from her or should I say his low birth into your family?”

Alice wanted to yell at Mrs. Anderson for her comments but compared to how that fat pig of an uncle of hers treated her this was quite tame. Her mother made sure that Alice would be ready to take all kinds of insults, so she would make a fool of herself. The Andersons had almost the same amount of power as the Rhodes. It wouldn’t do them any good to start a fight.

“Mrs. Anderson please do not refer to my daughter in such a manner. While her upbringing may be different than my other children, I still love her, and any more insults will not be tolerated,” Ariana said, furious that she couldn’t just slap this woman in the face.
